New Judge Dredd Image online

2000 AD has released a shot of the new Judge Dredd in his new suit and on his Lawmaster bike, and they look…. interesting. The bike itself is looking very… 80s and impractical. How the hell do you steer that thing?
Anyone else getting a serious wiff of low budget off this? Pretty much nothing they’ve shown so far strikes me as feature worthy, they’re more like something I’d expect from a 90s action show.
Maybe its just me, and I’ve never read Judge Dread comics (I’ll get there eventually), so I’m not totally sure if this is faithful to the source material or not. Any fans amongst you? What are your thoughts?

  1. THE ONLY WAY TO UNDERSTAND THE CHARACTER IS TO DO SOME READING. I HAVE BEEN A AVID READER OF ALL THINGS DREDD SINCE THE VERY FIRST COMIC CAME OUT. THERE HAVE BEEN A FEW MINOR FLAWS TO THE INTERPRETATION OF THE CHARACTER OVER THE YEARS BUT IT IS SUCH A STRONG, UNRELENTING COMMITMENT TO THE VIEW OF THE FUTURE JUDICIAL SYSTEM THAT EACH DIFFERENT WRITER AND ARTIST HAS STEPPED BACK INTO LINE TO MAINTAIN THE ENIGMATIC DREDD. ANYONE THAT HAS FOLLOWED THE LITERATURE OVER THE YEARS WILL OBVIOUSLY MAKE THEIR OWN JUDGEMENTS ON THE MOVIE. BE IT CHEAP OR UBER-FUNDED, ANY MEDIUM THAT GETS THE DREDD/ANDERSON STORIES OUT TO A WIDER AUDIENCE GETS MY VOTE. STALLONE’S PORTRAYAL WAS FAR TOO BLING BUT TECHI ENOUGH THOUGH THE LAWMASTER WAS A BIT LAME. THIS NEW INTERPRETATION OF THE MAN AND HIS MACHINE MAY TAKE SOME GETTING USED TO BUT HAVEN’T THERE BEEN JUST AS MANY NAY-SAYERS ABOUT BATMAN, PUNISHER, DAREDEVIL, SUPERMAN…..

  2. 2000ad / Tornado no1 and counting ,
Lets hope that this time they get JJ gritt filled , no shit taking , kick you in the teeth street hard and not the carebear in cycleshorts that was the last try .
As a die hard comic fan you have to take some knocks as far as to screen trys go but if they push it to far the fans they exspect to watch this will vote at the pics and wait for the DVD .
Right now I,ll take any Dredd I can get sooner or later the Dredd we all want will come along and kick our screens in !
Lets hope this lot have read the comics from the early Dredds !

  3. I’ve been a Dredd fan since i was a kid im 38 now, and i love all things Dredd, but i have to agree with Glyngo this version of the Lawmaster is bad it looks like a 1960s Bat bike. the Lawmaster the same as the Lawgiver and more importantly the helmet are integral to the character, thats why Karl Urban whats to stay true to it by keeping the helmet on. But this bike as well as some of the vehicle props that have shown up on the net look like something out of mad max not a future with hover cars and Judge Death. I just hope they stay true to the source material as much as possible.

  4. I am a Dredd fan since 25 years so have seen his cotstume, world and character metamorph into the visuals we see today. I kind of like the fact that they are going very gritty and realistic with this concept, but I don’t like the Lawmaster at all. It looks like a current day Suzuki modified to hold ice creams ont he front…99 anyone? Where are the low rider chopper handle bars and fat tyres that are the quintessential features of the famous vehicle we know and love. At least change the handles, we can suspend our imagination with the rest of the Suzuki…sorry I mean Lawmaster! the closest thing to a LAwmaster that I have seen is the bike used in Batman The Dark Knight, clearly that was influenced by the LM.

  5. Who cares if it’s low budget? Big budget does not = good and low budget does not = bad. If they can pull off an amazing movie on a low budget, more power to them. I’m so fucking sick of everyone looking for the tiniest reason to hate on everything these days.

    1. Hey now, calm yourself. I’m not hating on anything, I was just expressing my oppinion that it looked low budget. All I’m saying is, anything sci fi or comic-y kind of needs a decent budget, to create all the sets, costumes and general world of that particular story.
From what I’ve seen of Dredd comics, the world is fairly stylised and different to our world. So naturally, I’d like to see them do that justice, and I just think what I’ve seen so far didn’t look worthy of a feature.
I still want to see the film, I think Karl Urban is a great actor and I associate the original dredd film with my father, so I was always going to go see it. Don’t just assume I hate it.

      1. I got into reading Judge Dredd while I lived in Europe. I agree with Ian in regards to the world being futuristic in style. It looks like they are down playing that aspect and hopefully focusing on story. Stallone’s version was a special effects bonanza but they got the character wrong.
