Jolie talks Wanted 2

I really enjoyed Wanted, and when I heard they were doing a sequel I was intrigued. But when they said Angelina Jolie signed on, I figured it was a prequel. Spoiler alert… her character dies in Wanted. But then it was reported it would be a sequel, and I lost any interest at all. That’s just dumb.

Well finally Jolie has come forward to share why she won’t be involved in Wanted 2.

Screening Log shares:

ComingSoon briefly chatted with Jolie recently, and she basically said that she’s done with her killer character from “Wanted” because she sees no reason to bring her back from the dead. And she’s right.

I loved Jolie and her character in the first movie, but it would just seem odd for her to return. She said, “They were (trying to bring me back) but I kind of feel like if I die in a movie, I should die actually.”

I could just imagine the phonecall to Jolie.

Agent: “We want you to be in Wanted 2!”
Jolie:”You have SEEN Wanted right?”
Click.

No drama, no scandal, just logic. It didn’t make sense, so she turned it down. A rare quality it seems, in an industry ruled by money you think they might have tried harder to ruin the sequel. Well there is still hope.

So why was Sean Connery in Highlander 2 again? Wait. Why was there a Highlander 2??

  1. I won’t miss her at all, I did like her character in the first movie as she played her part very well. I think she is right when she said when a character dies most often times they should stay that way.

  2. Connery wasn’t in Highlander 3. He was in Highlander 2 and I agree there should have never been a second one. That film literally made no sense and had the worst logic. Such a shame that they dropped the ball with that franchise. Even though I love the first film the TV series with Adrian Paul was great and I enjoyed it more.

      1. They could come up with an explanation or a reason, but her sacrifice has no value if they bring her back.

It would just be a cheap petty money milking move and Jolie wanted nothing to do with it.

    1. Edited the post. The Highlander sequels offend me, so I forgot which one it was they brought him back to life in. Just adds to the pointlessness of returning a character because they were popular in the first film – even though the character died.

      1. Gandalf and the Balrog were not killed by the fall under Moria. Gandalf chased the Balrog for eight days until they climbed to the peak of Zirakzigil. Here they fought for two days and nights. In the end, the Balrog was cast down and broke the mountainside with its fall. Gandalf himself died during this ordeal, and his body lay on the peak while his spirit travelled outside of time. His spirit was guided back to his body and his body was healed by the Elves and he was brought back to life as Gandalf the White.

This is not at all like they were proposing. Gandalf did not return purely for popularity. It was always part of the story that his epic battle with the Balrog ended with the separation of his soul and body. But his powerful magic kept him alive while the elves healed his mortal form so he could keep living.

Its part of his story – not a cheap afterthought to make another movie.

      2. Offend you? That may be the perfect way to sum up those sequels. Highlander: Endgame was not horrible and it was reminiscent of how they made the first film and the series. However, Davis and Panzer would drop the ball again with Highlander: The Source, which I shit you not, made less sense then Highlander 2 and makes Highlander 2 look Oscar worthy. It was a straight to DVD movie, which says something right there, and the things they did in the movie were blasphemous. If you saw then you know what I’m talking about. If you didn’t don’t bother to see…ever.

      3. I meant for the books. Werent they broken up the same way the movies were?

And dead is dead. How long did they both fall for, saying the fall was broken, at such a height, sounds really cheap me.

      4. But that he can part a legion of war seasoned battle trolls with the glow of his staff… that’s acceptable?

Its fantasy. He cast a spell so he didn’t hit the bottom – and chased and battled with a giant fire demon for 10 days.

But a fall is too much for you to accept.

Its fantasy. If it was based in reality with a little fantasy – maybe. But Frodo gets shanked by a Ring Wraith’s blade and some elf puts some mud on it it and we are all cool.

It has to be accepted with the story and setting as a whole.

In Wanted, they are assassins. The very basis is that they kill people. If they can bring them back after a luxurious wax bath, then killing has no value. The dramatic choice at the end of that movie would mean nothing if she just came back because of a plot device.

Galdalf wasn’t sacrificing himself (even though Froddo thought so) he was fighting back the demon tearing up half a mountain to do so.

    1. Crank 2 just proves my point.

Even in that movie, bringing him back worked for the plot, but didnt work for the movie. Crank was a kickass film. Crank 2 was just milking the cow.
