Jensen Ackles Considered for Captain America?

You know, when you hear a rumour sometimes the best place to resolve it is from the person the rumour is about. Now there is no guarantee in Hollywood that they would give you a straight up answer but this seems genuine to me.

Supernatural’s Jensen Ackles has been rumoured to have the top consideration for Captain America, and when he was asked himself if this was true he shot down the whole idea almost making it sound like it was silly to think he would be.

Worst Previews quotes Ackles

“It’s been brought to my attention that it’s online,” he said. “I have not gotten a call from my agent, I have not gotten a script, I have not talked to anyone about it. I think it’s all a rumor.”

Ackles went on to explain that he’ll likely never get a role like that. “I’m sure [they’ll cast] some big name film actor,” he said. “They’re not going to pull some dude of the CW and give him Captain America. I’m squashing it now, I know nothing about it.”

While I think that Ackles has the presence he sure doesn’t have the build. Not that I want Captain America to be Liefeld massive, but I don’t see him as anything physically dominate at all. So I have no troubles at all with this casting getting shot down.

I still think DiCaprio would be appropriate with a little meat on him. Heck, I’d even accept Brad Pitt.

  1. I’ve been preaching the Matt Damon-as-Cap Gospel for years! He can definitely act, and do that kind of “Man out of his element” thing that would be needed for Cap in present day. (see the Bourne films) Plus, the fights in those three movies were pretty darned authentic.

I also think Brenden Frasier could do it, but he should have been Superman in Superman Returns.

  2. So gutted this is just a rumour, as a supernatural fan i’d love to see Ackles get the cap role as his always been my pick and his definatly got the build and look imo.

Micheal Bihen is a choice i could get behind too but as people say his probably too old, same goes for Pitt too.

I’d hate to see dicaprio as Cap, all i’d see is that scrawy kid from that titanic film ;P

  3. I have liked Jensen Ackles for Cap for awhile, he is by far my favorite choice.

He can’t really act, but Channing Tatum also fills the physical build.

    I also like Skarsgaard.

Since Superman is in purgatory, has anyone considered Brandon Routh. He seems a decent actor and has the presence to play cap…

  4. Ackles have been my favorite for a young Cap for a while, while Eric Dane has been my chioce for a more mature one… I don’t think he’s right about the studio necessarily choosing an A-list actor, so he shouldn’t loose all hope… I like both DiCaprio and Pitt but would prefer a younger actor without to much else to divert from him as Captain America.

  5. I know he has reddish hair, but I just thought about ti some more and Michael C. Hall from Dexter would also be perfect, and if you think he can’t act I suggest watching six feet under…

  6. I do agree with rodney, that “Jensen Ackles” has the presence but not the build… I do think that his height is more of an issue then his body fitness, as his body build up can be change within few month time… But i still feel that “Josh Holloway” from the lost series would be an excellent choice…..

    What do u guys think????

    1. Hmmmm, I hadn’t considered Josh. He is only a 1/2″ taller than Jensen Ackles and isn’t really any more physically domineering than him.

I don’t know why everyone keeps commenting on Jensen Ackles build, you only say that cause he doesnt run around with his shirt off all the time. The dude is actually in great shape and works out. It wouldn’t take much for him to get lean like Josh Holloway or anyone else you mentioned, probably just drop another 3-4% bodyfat and he would be right there.

      Just my thoughts

  7. Rodney, did you seriously just say he doesn’t have the physical build?? WHAT???!! Ummmm…it’s called a “work out regimen.” Christian Bale went from 90 pounds to 180 pounds in 4 or 5 months. I THINK this guy could get the right build if he actually got the roll.

    1. Jensen Ackles doesnt show off his physique much but he is actually pretty solid under those T’s he wears on Supernatural. It would be easy for him to get ripped for the role with a trainer. He doesnt really have to gain any weight for the role as long as he is ripped. Brad Pitt is only 5′-11″ and he looked much bigger on screen because he is ripped, Jensen Ackles is 6′-1″ tall so he is at least closer to the target height and much younger in case the movie is a success.

Brad Pitts time as a shirtless ripped actor is just about over, he is in his mid 40’s now! He is way to old to play Captain America IMO.

      1. Jared Padalecki is 6′-4″ tall so that would explain that.

Also, regarding my first post of Paul Walker, he is also 6′-4″ tall. Not that it is written in stone for a Captain America actor to be a certain height, but it sure would be nice to have someone that epitomizes Cap’s physical stature and presence.

  8. I’m thinking that the actor selected to play Cap should at the very least, look to be in his 30s. I’m hoping they don’t pick some young hunk for the role. Cap is the leader of the Avengers. With that being said, he should have the look of someone guys like R.D. Jr and Ed Norton would defer leadership to. I wouldn’t have a problem with Ackles or Leo if they bulked up, I wonder if Brad Pitt is getting a little long in the tooth for the role.

  9. The perfect choice for Cap is the man who should have got Thor. Alexander Skarsgard. I think he would make an even better Stever Rogers anyway. He is recognized from True Blood. But he played a great american soldier in the HBO miniseries Generation Kill. He has the acting chops, the look, and the build.

  10. I think maybe Jared leto should do a comic book hero, I’m not necisarilly saying captain america but the guy seems to be able to physically transform himself for his roles, he has a solid acting career under his belt. I could potentially see him making the physical metamorphasis to bulk up to Captain america size, but if not for that I could see him do some sort of super hero movie.

  11. The thought of Pitt or Dicaprio as Captain America sickens me.

If you remember my past posts on Green Lantern, I actually mentioned Jensen Ackles as my pick for GL. I just felt he would have been perfect for the Green Lantern role, I am not opposed to him as Captain America though.

If I were casting Captain America I would consider Paul Walker, I have always thought that he was born to play this role.

      1. So you hijack the comment making it a platform for you to rant about your personal opinions on a completely unrelated and irrelevant personality?

Your feelings on Moore have nothing to do with this topic.

  12. Brad Pitt? C’mon man I know he’s cool and all but not as cap…Some names come to mind (some aren’t american but have the chops to pull it off)

    Sam Worthington
    Chris Pine on Roids
Matthew Mccon-with out the shit eatin’ grin
DiCaprio would be awesome but that AINT gonna happen unless Scorsesse is directing (ha-ha)

    1. Do you honestly think that they would let a black man play Cap?

I have no issues with crossing ethnicities where it still works, but you have to know that there is no way in hell they would pick a black man to play Captain America.

      Just sayin.

      1. The “true story” I assume you mean the comics .. in which Steve Rogers was not black, nor were members of his regiment or special forces sent to take down Red Skull. And that’s about as true a story as you are going to get without being anal historical.

        Just sayin.

      2. There is a comic book where the actually prototype for the serum to make the super soldier was first used on a black man before it was used on the Cap.

That could be the storyline, but the whole thing on going more on the ultimates storyline pretty much bonks the black man out.

Would of liked to see it though

  13. I really think that with some training, he really could be a great Cap. Great look, great voice, and as Rodney said he does have presence. But like he said, he’s just some dude from CW. And I think that’s what we need: an almost no-name. I just can’t see Brad Pitt getting… “Steve Rogers” enough for the role. And DiCaprio is the same way. Fine actor, but I just can’t see him hitting the mark physically or mentally.

  14. Sorry Rodney, Captain America is a dude at the peak of human abilities and represents perfect soldier- No matter how much he beefed up DiCaprio could never fit that model.

Physically Ackles is a pretty good choice and his acting isn’t bad either- I’m actually disappointed that is just a rumor.

I would suggest Chris Hemsworth if he wasn’t already Thor- Though his trekie counterpart Chris pine looks the part and can act as well.

I don’t know- I think it’s really a hard choice no matter what, I mean really they have to choose someone who can play someone who is at the peak of human potential. Cap also has the highest belief in his convictions, something which has to come across in the acting.

      1. Perhaps, but height isn’t really going to matter very much. If McConaughey can give us a character swap the way he did with Reign of Fire (not saying we need THAT character, but a swing like that) then he might be decent. But that’s unlikely.

  15. Keep brad pitt away from this movie, because then well be watching brad pitt as captain america and not a captain america movie.

    This movie needs an unknown.

    1. Because when watching Iron Man I kept thinking it was just a Robert Downey Jr movie. And Bale was so distracting as Batman. And casting an Oscar nominated actor as Joker? Why would they do that?

Clearly it was a mistake to not use an unknown for those roles.

    1. i second that. i remember wizard did a dream casting for the xmen in the nineties and said biehn would be great for cyclops. he’d be perfect for either, if he were younger, in my opinion

      1. I totally agree. He had the look, the feel, the attitude, and a great leadership quality about him to pull off and amazing Capt. America. And like Jon said, Cyclops as well.

It’s a shame he got old before the Avengers or even the X-Men movies even got started.
