The Minotaur Takes a Cigarette Break

There are some ideas for movies that are so far out there that you can’t decide if they’re sheer genius, or just plain stupid as hell. The Minotaur Takes a Cigarette Break is one of those concepts.

Word on the street is that Kung Fu Panda co-director John Stevenson (who is also attached to direct the upcoming He-Man movie if you’ll recall) has joined up to direct The Minotaur Takes a Cigarette Break. The Hollywood Reporter breaks it down like this:

Mike Jones has written the adaptation of Steven Sherrill’s 2000 novel about the mythological creature — half-man, half-bull — who survived Theseus’ attack in the labyrinth and walks among us today. He’s a short-order cook in a Midwestern diner not far from his trailer-park home who falls for an epileptic waitress named Kelly.

I swear I read that through like 5 times and I still can’t wrap my head around it. Apparently the movie will inded be live action with 3D elemants (I assume the Minotaur or at least parts of him will be the 3d elements part). If nothing else it sounds different.

  1. I think this sounds pretty interesting. It lends it self to some pretty funny comedy. I haven’t read the book so I won’t be affected by that. When Nicolass said the book was boring I don’t think that really maters. Even if the book is boring the movie could be good by just using the concept and not by just making and other book to movie. This will be interesting to see what happens.

  2. Oh no, I can’t see that being a movie worth seeing. I wanted to like the book, but it was exceptionally boring! Ok, maybe there’s 1 scene that would be weird enough to check out… I’m sure you guess what happens in it.
