Martin Scorsese To Direct Frank Sinatra Biopic

Quite frankly I’m stunned that a full motion picture biopic on the life of Frank Sinatra hasn’t been made up to this point. The man’s life is so damn interesting… so damn influential… so damn controversial… so damn scandalous… and so damn COOL it’s hard to image no one has stepped up to produce it yet. Until now.

Universal Pictures has acquired the rights to the life story of Frank Sinatra and is moving forward to make the movie. And they picked the absolute perfect person in the world to direct it. Oscar winning director Martin Scorsese. How damn perfect is that???

The folks over at Dark Horizons give us this:

Oscar nominated screenwriter (Field of Dreams) Phil Alden Robinson is writing the screenplay for Sinatra based on the life of the iconic entertainer. Universal Pictures and Mandalay Pictures have been developing the project, after securing the Frank Sinatra life rights and music rights from Frank Sinatra Enterprises (FSE) – a joint venture of the Sinatra Estate and Warner Music Group.

This is fantastic news. So good, that the only thing I’m worried about at this point is how the hell you do the story of Frank Sinatra in just 1 movie? There was so much to the man… so many stories… so many events… so many milestones. I feel like you have to go Lord of the Rings on it and just make it a Sinatra trilogy: Part 1 – The Fellowship of the Rat Pack. Part 2 – The Two Vegas’. Part 3 – The Return of the Chairman

No word yet on when we can expect to see this, but I’ll be counting down the days once it’s announced. I’ll tell you right now it’ll be Oscar bait.

  1. sinatra was so great on film.
    just fuckin magic.

    i read somewhere (/film?)
that the studio wants johnny depp!
they’ll have to get in line.

    1. Don’t think I have ever heard him sing, but that would be some good casting if he can. Then again they could just have him lip sink it, but it would be better if he could sing it himself. I’d be a little detached if I heard his voice when in dialog and then heard Sinatra’s voice when singing.

      1. Back in 1998,Don Chedle played Sammy Davis JR,Joe Mantegna played Dean Martin,Dan OHerley played Joe Kenndy(Sadly passed away)and Robert Miranda played Sam Giacanna.
Ray Liotta, needless to say, missed the boat,as Frank, but Don,Joe,and Robert wouldnt be bad picks to repeat their great roles.
