Pixar Easter Eggs and Wall-E

Easter Eggs are one my favourite parts in films and TV. For those who don’t know, in media an Easter egg is an intentional hidden message or feature in an object such as a movie, book, CD, DVD, computer program, or video game.

Pixar is known for its Easter Eggs. And you would think that these would increase as they had more to work with, but characters from movies yet to be released are making cameo appearances! Now in some of the “blooper reels” there are some blatant crossover pieces, but I am talking about the more subtle ones.

JimHillMedia has a pretty detailed list. And in case you didn’t want to read it all, here is the short of what he found:

-The Adventures of André and Wally B – is a book name in Andy’s Bedroom in Toy Story
-The Lamp from Luxo Jr (which is a part of the Pixar Logo) knocks Buzz out the window in Toy Story
-The ball in Luxo Jr appears in Toy Story 1&2, Incredibles, Monsters Inc,
-Dinoco is the Gas Station that we find the Pizza Planet pickup in ToyStory and is also the coveted sponsor in Cars
-The old man who plays chess with himself in Geri’s Game is also the toy repair expert in Toy Story 2
-The Birds on the powerline in “For the Birds” are still up there in a highway scene of Cars
-TinToy, one of the first Pixar shorts appears in “Lifted”
-The abducted man in Lifted is Linguini from Ratatouille
-Boo hands Sully a number of toys in Monsters Inc including the Luxo Jr Ball, Jessie from Toy Story 2 and Nemo (before Finding Nemo was released)
-Stanley, the old car statue in Cars makes an appearance in the short “Boundin”
-Bomb Voyage from the Incredibles is seen as a mime on the streets of Paris in Ratatouille
-The Pizza Planet Pickup is seen in all Pixar films

And my favourite crossover:

Well now it seems that Wall-E has made appearances in Ratatouille (in a bonus feature called “Your Friend the Rat”) EDIT: I had a video linked that showed him in Incredibles, Toy Story and Cars, but that appears to have been a hoax, so I removed it.What else have you seen in the Pixar Movies?

  1. Why would you argue over this? Who cares about it. Yeah its cool and all, but really whats the point. But I do agree that Wall-e was the best pixar movie in a while.

  2. @Courtney… if you read all teh comments above AND the post, you would see that it was exposed as a scam by some guys who edited the “trash can” into the movie.

If you watch the actual movie, its not there. Sorry.

  3. actually, dion, they are. if you go to youtube there is a video showing, in slow motion about 1/30 of a second you will see him. walle is the trash can in toy story when buzz and woody fly into the car. if you go slow enough you can see his “head pop up. in cars at the piston cup, after lightning leaves the town, walle is in with the pit crew. the only problem is these are “blink and youll miss it” clips” but they are there.

  4. Murali…. you fell for the same hoax I did.

Everything you said was in the video I said was a hoax and removed from my post. You did not confirm any of it because they are NOT in the movies. It was made up.

Some intrepid fans doctored the scenes and made a youtube vid out of it. Its not in the movie.

  5. In Monsters Inc., Boo gives Sulley a Nemo figure, but Monsters Inc. came out 2 years before Finding Nemo! And its new 2008 movie, Wall-E was in Toy Story! When Buzz flies with Woody and land in the van – well the van was passing the house and you can see Wall-E poke his head up! And in The Incredibles, Mr. Incredible pulls up his car in the driveway, and Wall-E is seen in the upper right hand corner! And in 2006’s Cars, Wall-E is part of Lighning McQueen’s pit crew! You can even see him! This is real and confirmed as I have the movies and I actually spotted the Easter Eggs!

  6. Yes, it is the Mac OS startup. It is an easter egg to Apple, because the designer of the iPod also designed Eve. Also, Wall-E has also collected an old Mac keyboard as well as an iPod if you look closely. The keyboard appears on one of his shelves as he is flipping through to put away another lighter, and the iPod apears when he puts in the tape to his movie.

  7. This question has been bugging me since ive watched Wall-e. Whenever Wall-e uses the sun to recharge his solar power thing there is a distinct sound he makes when he is fully charged. Does anyone know where that sound comes from? To me it sounds like an old Windows 95 sound when i shut off the computer or when i shut off my playstation but to me those don’t sound quite right. Does anyone know?

i dont think that was meant for an easter egg or anything but i think this would be the best place to ask this question.

  8. So true Rodney. I’ve been hearing many people talking about The Dark Knight as some story about terroists and some people have even gone so far as to whine about that post with the burning bat symbol in the building as disrespectful because it is playing off the tragedies of 9/11.

    …..raaaaa–huh—-eally…….

  9. The cast of Bug’s Life are on a leaf in a scene in Toy Story 2 when Buzz leads the toys to go find Woody.
In Bug’s LIfe when they reach the big city, one of the buildings is a Pizza Planet cup.
There’s a Buzz Lightyear sitting next to a toy chest in the Dentist’s office in Finding Nemo.
I’m pretty sure the Luxo lamp and the ball are in all of ’em.

Not really pixar, but still cool; when Woody is rolling around in the back of the Pizza PLanet truck and again when buzz is stuck under the a crate in Andy’s room toe tool boxes involved say “Binford”, which is the fictional tool company that sponsored Tool Time on Tim Allen’s (the voice of Buzz) show Home Improvement

and that’s all i can think of for now

  10. Those bare few renegades that want to over analyze this film to the point of destroying it are saying that this is just more environmental propaganda.

Its a popular message recently, but some people take any message as propaganda and rally to knee jerk rebellion

  11. I saw the dinosaur too! But seriously, check this out:

Wall-e made me almost cry man, it was deep. Thank goodness my wife and kids were there, I had to compose myself. People, this movie is the real deal. We are destroying our planet and we are turning the other cheek. Al Gore is the truth when it comes to this and I bet he was crying like a child when he saw this movie. John, if you read this, do you agree?

  12. In some cases like the old man in Geri’s Game or the victim of Lifted that might be true, but only in those cases.

But they didn’t use the same model of the pizza truck for that reason (its not the same model in every movie, but rather a variation on it) and a ball is a ball no matter what skin you put on it, so why not use the Luxo Jr Ball? They could have made it a solid colour with less effort.

Its hard to argue that this is tradition for Pixar, and not just some gimmick to save money.

  13. Um, they ARE in the shots. I can’t confirm Toy Story, as my copy of that is still at my old place in B.C., but I checked The Incredibles and Cars and Wall-E IS in them, in those spots.

I fucking HATE people like that, that are negative for no reason other then to be negative.

  14. Unfortunately, those are fan-made easter eggs. If you check with the films, you’ll notice that Wall-E is not in any of those shots.

Would have been pretty neat if they were real, though.

  15. well when Wall-E first opens his little trailer home thingy and we see all the stuff he has collected…one of the things was the dinosaur from Toy Story.
