Punisher Teaser Trailer Online

Trailer Addict says:

Waging his one-man war on the world of organized crime, ruthless vigilante-hero Frank Castle sets his sights on overeager mob boss Billy Russoti. After Russoti is left horribly disfigured by Castle, he sets out for vengeance under his new alias: Jigsaw. With the “Punisher Task Force” hot on his trail and the FBI unable to take Jigsaw in, Frank must stand up to the formidable army that Jigsaw has recruited before more of his evil deeds go unpunished.

I don’t know. This guy just doesn’t scream “Punisher” to me. Oh sure he has the trademark skull icon in his body armour, and he has rediculous amounts of guns and even has a gruff speaking voice. But he just doesn’t look “right” to me. Maybe it will grow on me. The trailer looks to have plenty of violence and kickassery that you would expect from the Punisher.

I have never quite agreed with the Punisher as a hero (Or technically an Anti-Hero – performing a hero’s job using criminal methods) but I do get his character. He does the unthinkable to punish these criminals so that no one else has to, and no one else will. Its his mission and he doesn’t care what affect it has on his soul. He feels justified in his perverted “justice”

I always thought the Punisher story would end with him getting taken down by some FBI task force, and he would welcome it as justification for the sins he commited to complete his mission of punishing the wicked. But that would kinda close the door on any sequels.

Story be damned, we need us some munny churning sequels.

  1. “I have never quite agreed with the Punisher as a hero ”

agreed. there are 1000 things worse then death and different ways top “punish” people..glad you are the one of 10000 people to think that way Rodney

but i think that the skull is too like faded- not big enough and it should be WHITER..everything else is fine (he. looks. so. AWSOME!)

    thanx for the trailer

  2. As a movie fan, one who doesn’t care at all about comics but loves comic-inspired movies, I have to say this is a pretty awful trailer when viewed on the internet. It might look different on the big screen, I’ll have to see, but I never saw the 2003 Punisher (thought it looked kind of stupid) and I can’t say that, based on this trailer, I’m all that excited about the new one either.

  3. Its a teaser, I like Ray…I think I’ll hold back on judgement till a full trailer comes out.

At least with Lionsgate behind it they wont have to worry about toning the Punisher down…

  4. Is it just me or does the cinematography remind anyone else of Batman Forever’s neon coloured city?

I’ve always been game for another Punisher in the hope that we could get a classic style action film without any bullet time or gun ballet tricks. I’m not going to judge it based on a cliched trailer. I’ll just wait and see.

  5. Goddammit….Punisher was one of the first comic books I ever picked up. Loved the Mad Max style story and thought he was a bad-ass character. The Thomas Jane flick wasn’t too bad…and hell I’ll even give this a view…but it doesn’t look like they can get this right on the big screen.

It kinda has the feel of Hitman and we all know how well that turned out.

  6. Well this is going to be a load of crap…. He does not fit the part… and now for some ACE ventura………… “Ray ain’t comin home… he’s been gone for 15 yrs. The lights are on but nobody’s upstairs……… oh look…. little footballs”

  7. Ohhh this trailer did nothing but give me doubts about this film. Thomas Jane was great in The Punisher and I was really suprised that I ended up liking the movie. It was a good blend of realisam, action, humor, comic fan service and had John Travolta. This movie to me seems like a straight to DVD film. Everything in the trailer just seemed dull and not exciting. Also this new guy for some reason to me feels like he cant act. I know he was great in Rome but the parts of diologe in the trailer were felt like he was reading them off. Oh and what the hell was he handing up side down on a chandlier for? That part in my opinion was stupid. Good and easy way to get killed.

  8. This is exactly the sort of thing I feared…and expect from alleged ‘comics fans’ who are never 100% pleased with anything. As much as I like the character, we are now up to three different films on this character in less that twenty years…

I’m starting to see the light, Rodney. I’m starting to see the light. Punisher looks like a slam dunk for a live action interpretation, but for some reason, the character just doesn’t work on the screen. I can’t put my finger on it. Maybe ‘Foolkiller’ would be a better character to monkey around with, who knows.

“I always thought the Punisher story would end with him getting taken down by some FBI task force”

In the comics, there was an event like that where Castle was apprehended by the authorities and I believe even had a day in court.
In the 89/90 film with Dolph, Castle was also under arrest at one point.

    But here it is:
In the 89 Punsher, there was a feud between writer Boaz Yakin and producer Robert Kamen which led the infamous Skull removal. Despite being a decent low budget B action film with a story, despite that Lundgren looks “street” and grizzled, despite some nods to the comics…the skull was gone and thus it “wasn’t good enough”

    Many years later…

2003 sees a well done Punisher, Skull and all, but less of a story and Jane did a good job, characters like The Russian and a memorable Harry Heck, the mind games..but it’s set in Florida and John Travolta is an over the top invented villain and even though Castle isn’t “grizzled” enough, he’s just starting his revenge quest but never mind about that “this movie s-u-c-k-s” because it isn’t 110% like the comic. “He isn’t rugged enough” gag. gag. gag.

Everyone wants to do a sequel. Jane’s on, Jon Hensliegh. They want Jigsaw as the bad guy. Here we are and the two principles aren’t here. In fact, the genius of it is that the previous film never happened. gag.gag.gag.

So we get the weakest and most annoying side characters who assist Castle in this film, cause dammit, we got to be 120% like the comic and for some reason the character isn’t really working, but that’s the least of our concerns!

Well, on the good side, this may be the final nail in the coffin.
On the down side, it may also be the final nail in the coffin. (I’d like to see a Punisher vs Foolkiller film myself)
Or perhaps the character was never that good of a draw in live action as fans think,

  9. I think that the first PUNISHER was one of the stupidest movies ever, I really hated it.
I will see this however and there is only one reason for it:
Ray Stevenson. He was so good in ROME that I have no doubt he can bring that butt-kicking badassery over to the role of Frank Castle.
I love that they gave him the chance to shine in a lead and I hope the movie around him doesn’t disappoint.

  10. I may be in a minority, but I always thought Thomas Jane was too “GQ” for the role. If you look at the way Castle is drawn in the comics, he’s grizzled, lined etched deep in his face. He looks haggard — who wouldn’t when you’re on a 24 hour, 365 day crusade against crime

Well, there’s bruce wayne — but he’s got millions for plenty of facelifts and plastic surgery.

Will I go see this in theatres? Punishe was never a favorite of mine, though I respect the character. I may end up waiting for DVD to see this, but I do think that the actor playing the role is fairly spot on…from what we’ve seen thus far.

  11. December? Wasnt this movie suppose to come out in August or September? I liked Thomas Jane as the Punisher but I dont like this guy at all. How the hell does he go from doing Rome to starring in Punisher?
