Harrison Ford Set To Star In Crowley

HarrisonspeedosIt looks like Harrison is looking to buy a couple of new helicopters. He’s back in the working world, and has signed on for the upcoming drama “Crowley”. We get the following scoop from our friends at Variety:

Ford will star in CBS Films’ drama “Crowley,” which Tom Vaughan (“What Happens in Vegas”) is in negotiations to direct.

Film is based on the true story of John and Aileen Crowley, whose two children had a rare genetic disorder. Rather than give up hope that nothing could help his children, John Crowley found a researcher (Ford) with a potential cure. Ford also will executive produce the film. Michael Shamberg and Stacey Sher (“World Trade Center”) are producing alongside Carla Shamberg. Robert Nelson Jacobs (“The Water Horse,” “Chocolat”) wrote the screenplay, which was inspired by a Wall Street Journal article and subsequent book, “The Cure,” by Geeta Anand.

I am not familiar with the Wall Street Journal article that this film will be based on, but if any of you are – please fill us in.

Sick children are the cause of much grief and woe. I cannot imagine having a child sick with an illness that I could do nothing about, I am pained to think of anything more sorrowful on the globe. My grade school French teacher had a child with cancer and I remember being very touched by her compassion and resilience. The child pulled through and much celebration was had, but the ordeal was an experience that would test the hardest of wills.

For a dramatic film, this is certainly a subject that will pull at the heartstrings.

It will be cool to see Harrison Ford as a scientist. This is another heroic role for him, that puts beakers and burners in the place of his blaster pistol/bullwhip. I like Harrison Ford and am glad he is out snatching up roles that sound promising. With luck he will hit a few more fantastic films before he decides to pack it in, and retire.

  1. WellI I am a friend of the Crowleys. The more exciting buzz is about his younger brother Joe Crowley that Denzel is about to seal the deal to portray; John Crowley’s maverick and reckless younger brother.! I smell NC-17

  2. Aren’t there like hundreds of these tear-jerkers out there? Where the parents of a sick child either start studying themselves and find a cure, or go to a researcher who finds a cure and so on? Most of them based on real stories, too, and most of them also incredibly dull. Ford must really need the money.
