Kristopher Tapley Reviews The Incredible Hulk

I’m beyond stoked. variety.com writer, Senior Editor of InContention.com and frequent guest on The Movie Blog, Kristopher Tapley has just seen The Incredible Hulk and has given his review of it. What did he think? Apparently he LOVES it. Here are a couple of excerpts from his review:

Louis Letterier’s “The Incredible Hulk” is not only likely to be the biggest, most exhausting (in all the good ways) film-going experience you’ll have this year, but it also holds the second turtle dove of a young studio’s seizure of what promises to be one of the greatest cinematic roll outs the genre has, or perhaps will ever see.

But despite consciously pushing the action peddle to the metal in this effort, and therefore breeding suspicion that the filmmakers might overdo it, each set piece is more dazzling than the last.

Finally, and to take things into specifics, the script manages to breed two villains in the same scene, one that couldn’t possibly have been better balanced. And it is that scene that serves as a microcosm for the film’s recipe. Sometimes you expect too many flavors to screw up the soufflé, but somehow such things just keep WORKING along those lines throughout.

Ok, I’m pumped as hell. I can’t wait to see this damn thing!

  1. fyi when this movie comes out to the masses i will gaurantee some hater talking crap but for a fan boy like myself and lover od world war Hulk….this movie was fun ass hell…but i repeat some peope will hate

  2. I saw a screener of The Incredible Hulk last night. Sure I’m a little bias (with some 300 Hulk items in my office) but this Hulk ROCKED.

I loved the fan-boy add ins. Truly showed director and Norton were in sync with the character. I might have been the only one in the audience that got the reference to the ‘Hulk vs. the Rain’.

Some things re-cut from what was leaked like the kicking Blonsky in the chest. Much better this way now. I won’t nitpick right now on the only fixes I would have made.

This didn’t give me any bad feeling at all walking out the door like the last movie. I look forward to the next movie when Hulk’s a hero… and the one or two after that.

Note to self: Gotta buy some more Marvel stock.

  3. I recently heard that “The Leader” is introduced in this movie. That will be the second villain.

Now I’m really looking forward to this movie (at first that wasn’t the case).

I only can hope my expectations aren’t to high now.

  4. Well this is great to hear for sure. Action and character depth in the same movie plus the Lonely Man theme song. Bring it on!

BTW – for those of you that have seen it – how does the Hulk look on the big screen? I find he looks off in the trailers. Something wrong with his skin texture – looks too plant like.

  5. Hmm. How about that the negative vibe that this film had is turning completely around. I just fear that it’s a little too late for the general public cause Iron Man had months and months of positive buzz going around it while so far Hulk has only two published positive reviews a few days before the premiere.

But fuck theaters, I’m downloading Bigsampson’s shitty torrent to watch on my Iphone.

  6. Well this is all very good news! I’m glad people are liking it. When I first heard that they were going to do another Hulk movie I thought it would suck. Having seen the trailers and the new cast attached to it has restored my faith. I can’t wait to see it!

  7. i just got back at the pre screener event in san jose california and man the movie is a nonstop asskicking adventure…i wish starks was in it more but the movie was fricken wicked sick…and i onl had hopes for a decent acting job…but the movie was the shit i am gonna go see it on opening night…i put up ts versions of it on torrents sights…not a really good job but all i had with my shitty camera…GO SEE THIS FILM IT IS THAT GOOD

  8. I couldn’t have been less excited for this movie after seeing the trailers, but I will admit when I’m wrong, this movie is fantastic. I just got back from a speacil screening of the film and found every moment of it to be classic marvel entertainment on par with IronMan.

The film also does an amazing job of setting up the future Marvel line with more cameos and subtle nods than I have ever seen in another Marvel film. It was very fun to see how much of a great time people had making this film.

And of course, nothing beats the lonely man theme played up a few times and of course, “Hulk Smash” and Downey’s little scene at the end was great as expected.

I am now counting down the years until we finally see The Avengers!

  9. I knew this was going to happen….. The older I get the more good stuff keep coming up…… I can’t believe that they had to fuck up or even ignore this way of making epic comic movies during my youth………BUT STILL PUUMPED UP FOR IT.

Hey John when is your review coming out???

  10. Hey Grave,

Don’t overstate my role man. It’s not a “cameo”. Cameo’s are for people that actually matter. My spot is as an extra. Nothing more.

But I still think my name should be on the poster :P

  11. So far, the two reviews I have seen have both given glowing reviews. Hopefully this keeps up. I am really looking forward to seeing this, this weekend.

  12. My initial interest in this movie was very “meh”, then I got psyched when Ed Norton became attached and then over the last few weeks my feelings were more ambivalent. Now as we are getting closer and the marketing is ramped up and some positive buzz is getting out to us I am excited again to see this and will probably be in line friday night or saturday to take this delightful frenzy of a treat in.
