Will Ferrell in a Zoolander Sequel?

With all the buzz around Will Ferrell’s Semi-Pro lately everyone seems to be wondering if he will visit sequels of his previous hits. Just after the Anchorman 2 rumours die down, the mill starts with the talk of Zoolander 2.

MTV Movies Blog says:

One of the biggest nagging questions we wanted answered was the status of that long-rumored sequel to Ben Stiller’s ode-to-male-modeling, “Zoolander.”

“Yeah, there was a little talk,” Ferrell admitted. “I brought it up to Ben really five years after the fact. Just for whatever reasons, it’s just not crystallizing.”

See, when actors say things like “its not crystallizing” all I hear is “If they offer me a lot of money, sure I will do it, but lets act nonchallant about it so I can create some buzz and hope it really happens.”

One thing I actually DO like about Will Ferrell is that he doesnt DO sequels to his Saturday Night Live type movies. I have about enough of his characters in one sitting and I am starting to get tired of him already. He plays such diversely different characters, but he is still Will Ferrell. They are all the same… but they are not.

I went through this phase with Jim Carrey. Also with Jack Black. In their prime I couldnt get enough of these guys. But as time went on and they released movie after movie with the same shtick, and despite loving their comedy I had enough.

Now I can occassionally go back and watch their movies and get a laugh, but not until after I have detoxed myself of their giggly poisons.

I might not sound like a Will Ferrell fan when I say this, but I hope he doesn’t do a sequel to ANY of his movies. They are fine on their own. Leave it be.

  1. Unfortunately Anthony, many people found this to be incredibly funny (myself included) and if that wasn’t enough to get a sequel, then its doubtful that Farrell talking about it will either.

  2. I’m not sure if I agree with the assessment of Jim Carrey. It seems that when he started doing things like The Majestic or Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, folks stupidly stayed away. Then he goes back to fare like Lemony Snickets and Bruce Almighty, and evryone shows up. Look at Adam Sandler right now. Dumb crapfest comedy that people flock to (although I did like some of Click and Anger Management)…but did anyone check out his best work- in Reign Over Me? No.

Farrell is running out of steam with the sports comedies (although I liked Talledega a lot) and his best work was in Stranger Than Fiction which hardly anyone went too see

I just hope these talents don’t wind up like Robin Williams.
    Who?

  3. I went through these phases as well, though not so much with Jack Black. School of Rock is the only thing I can stand him in. In regards to Ferrell doing sequels, I agree that they should just leave well enough alone. It would be funny to see Mugatu again(my friends and I actually made our own Derelicte shirts in honor of Zoolander), but I think at this point it would be in Ferrell’s best interest to move forward, rather than stay in the same rut that caused Semi-Pro to semi-perform at the box office.
