This Side of the Truth Starring Ricky Gervais And Jennifer Garner

Ricky Gervais 1This is the best news story of the day. It looks like Ricky Gervais has penned a script where he will lie to succeed, and cheat to win! We get the glorious news from cinematical:

Gervais wrote the screenplay with Matthew Robinson, and the pair will co-direct as well. The screenplay “centers on an Everyman (Gervais) who figures out how to lie and uses his newfound ability to woo a beautiful woman way out of his league (Garner) and become a success at work.”

Ricky Gervais is the Benny Hill of this generation. He has a second degree black belt in hilarity and has the ability to come up with some of the best comedic entertainment I have ever seen. I like the idea for this movie very much, people lie all the time …because it works. People champion honesty and yet it is the worst character trait for personal advancement. People who tell the truth are never trusted, and that is hilarious.

To have a movie that celebrates the success of the fib, the glory of the con, and the bounty of bullshit; is not only going to be absolutely hilarious, but a valuable lesson.

Jennifer Garner has a sunny disposition and will suit her role perfectly. Every time she is sucked into a lie you will want to love/hate Ricky for pulling a fast one on such a beautiful, kind and trusting creature. I am interested in seeing how the interaction between the two plays out, and I wonder if she will be in on the con. Women lie better than men, they are so good at it – that they let us think otherwise.

I am glad to see Ricky storming the silver screen, and I am enthused to share this news with all of you.

  1. Oldshell speaks the truth Doug. I guarentee that “Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace” is a show that was made for you. Only 6 episodes were ever made and if you type the title into youtube, you can find them all.

  2. Got to agree with oldshell on this one, gervais as a whole was over exposed in the UK and I think alot of people have come to be tired of the same crap he spews out, and yes any British person with a dry sense of humour and attitude problem is the same a gervais, day in day out.

    I wont be seeing this.

  3. Doug – you would be welcomed with open arms. p.s. have you ever seen a show called “garth marenghi’s darkplace” I doubt it ever crossed the water, but you should check it out. “she was like a candle in the wind… unreliable”

  4. oldshell you are a god damn firecracker!

I love your impassioned response and I most certainly hope to go to England sometime very soon. I have always loved BBC comedies and very much wish to visit the funniest land on earth.

  5. I really hate Gervais’ comedy shows (Fame, for example) but his television work has been for the most part, brilliant.

I will wait though for this and hopefully it won’t have a fucking cliched ending. The synopsis right now screams for a cliched ending where he tells the truth and the girl still loves him. I fucking hate that.

  6. I hate gervais. That guy is a hack, and John if you come to england ever you will notice everyone has a friend equally as funny in exactly the same way.. it’s nothing special and it really grates. He can only play himself and if I ever bump into him I’m gonna throw my dukes before he gets a chance to open his mouth!!

in summary: office (UK) series v1.. yes, everything since.. *yawn*

  7. The only thing I can see to news regarding Ricky is:
KARL PILKINGTON’s GOT A HEAD LIKE A FUCKING ORANGE!

Oh, and to people who don’t know what I’m talking about: I feel very sorry for you.
