X-Files 2 Starts Shooting In December

X-Files-2-MovieA few weeks I had written a story about ‘The X-Files’ sequel and how it will most likely happen soon. A few of you were skeptical and thought it wouldn’t happen. Well it looks like you hard core X-files fans out there are in deed in store for an early Christmas present.

SciFiWire gives us this:

The X-Files 2 is tentatively set to go before the camera in December, with Carter directing, based on a script he wrote with veteran X-Files writer-producer Frank Spotnitz. Duchovny will reprise his role as FBI Special Agent Fox Mulder, and Anderson will return as Special Agent Dana Scully.

The plot remains a secret, but Duchovny expressed his hope that the second feature will recapture the essence of the series, which ran for nine seasons, from 1993 to 2002. It also spawned a spinoff TV show (The Lone Gunmen) and the first movie, The X-Files, which premiered in 1998.

I for one am really excited about this news. Although I stopped being a fan of the series in the later years when they got more into the “conspiracy theory” episodes, I was a huge fan of the movie. I think this is a great idea and it will definitely make money at the box office. Although, as much as I like that all the original team is back, I actually would like to also see Robert Patrick reprise his role as well. (I’m probably one of the few people who actually liked him in the show. :P)

So what do you guys think? Are you excited to see Mulder and Scully back on the big screen?

  1. I hope they sort of do a reboot, and not get too tied down with all the old mytholgy. I’m all for it having the classic feel of the show, but it does need sort of a fresh start to get rid of the bad taste left by the last few seasons when it was clear they didn’t have much of a clue how to wrap things up.

  2. The show started going downhill for me when David left. I’m so excited to hear about this news. I miss my Mulder and Scully. ;)

You guys think Skinner will still be in it?

  3. Wow I’m super psyched about this. I was a big fan of the show and loved the movie; I can’t wait to see Mulder and Scully back on the big screen- Even though I was a little disappointed with the way the show ended (err- the last couple of seasons) I think that with a little bit of a fresh restart to the franchise- this film will be a hit.

  4. I think that the movie has a lot of potential, even though throughout the series many of the lead and essential supporting characters were killed off.

Carter and Spotnitz are a great writing team, and delivered the best X-Files, Lone Gunman and Millennium episodes (lets forget that they did Harsh Realm and The Outer Limits – although there were some awesome episodes of TOL). Robert Patrick SHOULD be involved. The man is an awesome actor, and I love watching him each week on CBS’s The Unit.

Maybe they’ll tie into Millennium again somehow, make a super conspiracy that they’d (Mulder & Skully) need Frank Black’s (Lance Henrikson) pyschic abilities to solve. Personally, I’d like to see X-Files back on the air, and depending on the sucess of this new movie, I could see it being a possibility. HOWEVER, they cant turn it into an abortion like the last 2 or 3 seasons of The X-Files turned into. The essence of the show became lost, and the vision blurred and thus the show became alienated (excuse the pun) from its fanbase. God only knows that the majority of the cast hasn’t done anything since X-Files called it quits. Its about time they get back to making intertaining and captivating television for us to watch again.

  5. Naw this franchise is toast. The series arc sputtered and failed to deliver any resolution. Does the general public care anymore about these characters? Never hear any water cooler conversations about them.

  6. It may be interesting what happened to the two characters since the end of the series (on the lam; putting themselves into a ‘protective custody’) but now that you mention it, the plot is so secretive we don’t know for sure who else is in the film…and it shoots in two months. I thought the addition of Dogett (Patrick) was great as well, I even liked Annabeth Gish (to a lesser extent, anyway)…

Sadly, since Doug Hutchinson is in the new Punisher film, there will be no Tooms ressurection :(
[from what I heard, Files 2 will wrap up a few strings in the Alien Conspiracy and focus more on the ‘monster /killer’ of the week angle; I’d rather hope for a story around the renegade AI, or perhaps a tale regarding serial killer Monty Props, who Mulder caught early in his career]

The Lone Gunmen were killed off :(

The Cancer/Cigarette Smoking Man (William B Davis) bought the conspiracy farm in the sky… ;(

So…let’s see who *is* doing what…
*Mitch Pileggi: does reccuring roles on ‘Greys Anatomy’ and ‘Stargate Atlantis’; thus, Skinner could be available. As he should be.

*Robert Patrick. Can’t recall “where”, but I think he said in an interview somewhere (int’l friends can check on this) that he/his character isn’t involved.

*Nicolas Lea as Krychek…maybe. Yeah, Rat boy was offed by Skinner…but then Krychek also turned up later on as a ghost. so never say never.

  7. YES! I’m all for it!! I gotta start rewatching this show again on dvd soon, it’s been a long time! and yeah, I really like Robert Patrick too!! That guy should have been in a whole lot more movies!! He’s is an incredible actor!!
