AVP Sequel Gets An Official Name

avp-2.jpgRemember how many names the untitled Alien Vs Predator sequel had when it was first announced? Well it turns out that 20th Century Fox has finally made a decision as to what round 2 of the battle of the killer extra-terrestials should be titled.

Movieweb gives us this:

20th Century Fox has finally settled on a title for the upcoming Alien vs. Predator sequel with, Aliens vs. Predator Requiem.
The film is directed by Greg and Colin Strause, written by Shane Salerno and starring David Paetkau, John Ortiz, Johnny Lewis, Reiko Aylesworth, Sam Trammell, Shareeka Epps and Steven Pasquale.

I, myself find this to be a really bad title. Why couldn’t they have just named it AVP2? Is this official title supposed to make us take this movie more seriously and ignore the fact that it is most likely a pointless sequel to horror movie that has thankfully been erased from most people’s cerebrums?

AVP2…err..I mean, Aliens vs Predator Requiem is set to hit theatres on Christmas Day, 2007. Will you go see it?

  1. Sounds like the aliens get high on acid and the predators then prostitute themselves.

Still I think the title is somewhat appropriate… those franchises are really dead now.

  2. I dont think the first one was bad as everyone says i thought i was below average but it had its redeaming features, i wont see this at the cinema but i will catch the rental. (unless the critics really slate it)

  3. Hmm, I like what Klendathu posted. But just one Predator? Hopefully this one will kick ass unlike the weaklings in AVP1. I just hope they don’t pull a Alien Resurection with the weird mutant thing at the end being the main villain.

  4. It takes place in modern day Colorado.
There will be a lone Predator (Wolf, is the nickname given by the directors)
The aliens will have the ridged heads, like in ALIENS.
Trailer to be out within the next week or so.
Main human characters won’t fight, they’ll run and try to survive.
Old school predator thermal vision will be used.
Most likely that the alien born from a predator host will make an appearance.
    Confirmed battle near a hospital.
    Will be a “Hard R”

  5. Well it’s better than AVP2: The Quickening. Any idea what time period this takes place in? I hope it takes place during the Aliens timeline with some Colonial Marines, but they probably have to pay James Cameron a pretty penny (or 2) to have that, but then again we see them in the video games.

And nothing says Christmas like a Predator ripping the head off a Xenomorph. This will be another Christmas classic like Die Hard ;)

  6. i wouldnt waste my time, if they paid me…

well, ok, “if” they paid me i would go…

this is the kind of shit i might watch on dvd w/ certain friends while high and drunk…

    but christmas? bah humbug!

  7. I kinda liked the first one, and I’m glad that they’re making this one R-rated (or so I’ve heard). I’ll save judgement for the first trailer, but why would you release this on X-mas day? That’s going to be the kiss of death. I think genre pics don’t fare well during the holidays because people have to go see family films. They need to seriously reconsider the release date.

  8. Yes, I will be seeing it, but not because I loved the first one.

My fiance took me to see AVP1 for our very first date. We were the only ones in the theater that night so we were able to add our own commentary. It was great fun. So I imagine we’ll be going to see the sequel.

  9. I think they are trying to erase the existence that that was a first one, probably to make this is the real vs movie and the first one didn’t really exist

  10. “Is this official title supposed to make us take this movie more seriously and ignore the fact that it is most likely a pointless sequel to horror movie that has thankfully been erased from most people’s cerebrums?”
    That’s the point.. i guess

Anyway, i won’t go see this in theater.
But its a great film for a beer night with some other guys at home! :)

  11. It is a stupid title. And I will avoid it. Then again, I recently rented the DVD of another stupid movie title from earlier this year -Blood & Chocolate- and was stunned on how..good…it was. (Not great, but not as bad and boring as I have heard it to be) …what is it with studios and these horrid film titles?

And on Christmas Day? Well, it isn’t the only genre pic around (I Am Legend opens a week or so before AvP:Rectum, I mean, Requiem) and…what AvP going up against?

The Water Horse: Legend Of The Deep…which is a family film that has some slight SF genre connection, as it deals with O’ Nessie of Loch Ness.

Charlie Wilson’s War: a ‘based on a true story’ thing that stars Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts and Phillip Seymour Hoffman. Could be pushed for Golden Globe/Oscar contender.

But more importantly, ‘National Treasure 2′ opens a few days before…and that first one was stupid, silly and prepostorous. It also was entertaining and was a hit.

    AvP2 is doomed.
What’s even more tragic is chances are if Fox doesn’t have critics screen it, it is really doomed.

More tragic still is that it is doomed- and if it falls on its bottom, execs wll say “No life left in Alien’ no life left in ‘Predator’ blah blah blah.

    :(

  12. Yeah I’ll still go see it. Even though the first movie had a bad script and direction, the concept is still one I like (I’ve read the AvP books etc). Predator is my favorite action/scifi movie of all time as well as Aliens so I’ll see it regardless.

Hey at least they didn’t go with “AvP: survival of the fittest” now that was just way to full of cheeze. I can live with Requiem.
