Incredibles Sequel In The Works?

inkdad.jpgWe learn today that Brad Bird is mulling about the idea of an Incredibles sequel. We get the following interview excerpt frmo our friends at cinemablend:

With Brad Bird’s newest movie, Ratatouille about to hit theaters, he’s free to start thinking about his next project. Is there any chance it’ll be Incredibles 2? Bird tells the AP he’s full of Incredibles ideas.

Bird says, “I love the world. I love the characters, and if I could come with a story that was as good or better than the original, I’d go there in a second. I have pieces of things that I would love to see in a sequel, but I haven’t got them all together yet, and I certainly wouldn’t want to come out there with something that is less than the original. … Sequels are not part of the business plan at Pixar. It’s all about the filmmakers being passionate about going somewhere.”

In an age where we get sequels when we don’t want them, from movies that should not have them, it is nice to hear that Pixar “does not have sequels as part of their business plan.” If anyone could milk sequels to make billions – it would be Pixar. Instead they choose to be creative and tell new stories, preserving the integrity of the origionals.

With Toy Story 2, some consider this to be a sequel that trumps the first film. This was no easy task, but at Pixar it sounds like this is what you have to guarantee, before they will consider a follow up film. I think most people would want to see an Incredibles sequel, but I am fine if one is never made. Pixar is a fantastic group of creators dedicated to excellence and brand pride. My hat is off to them, and if an Incredibles sequel does get made, we can rest assured that it will be worth it.

  1. I watch the incredible for the first time yesterday and I must say I loved it so much that I watched it a total of five time. I hope there is a sequel or and incredible 2, the incredibles is a fanastic movie. keep up the good works Mr. Birds.

  2. I just watched Incredibles again for the 35th time probably and I just love it every time…I think that a sequel is in order for this movie and I think that sequels aren’t always bad. I hope Brad Bird continues on the movie I would love to see a 2nd film. Such an Incredibles fan!

  3. Well,Id surely love to see a sequel, considering Bard’s “ful of ideas”- because, unlike with things like Ratatouile and some other “one-shots”-theres actualy a lot that could be done with this-not to mention there are tons of superhero/villians/things that could be well parodised.Like someone mentioned,id like to see a spoof of Galactus,we havent had one since “The Tick” and that was a long time ago now.

Prequel-could be,but they should not make it into a “courting movie” centering around the time Bob met Helen-while it COULD be done quite humorously, lets just say that it may not and that is why it could be avoided-because of all things “made for the whole family”,this type of thing is the trickiest to make interesting both for young audiences and the older people who just dont generaly like (or even despise) romance.

Also-Cinderella IV?I hope thats a joke cause there is NOTHING to add beyond Cinderella I-not like The Litle Mermaid who had an entiere animated series which created a world with a set of characters-though theese were barely used and ruined with things like “your breaking the law by singing”.

In ALL honesty,I think a limited tv series would please the fans most ,with a litle more frquency and content-but isnt that one a tricky subject to merge into numerous litle episodes or workable “multi-eps”-but if it would come to this, then the ending would need to be something “Epic” as well-remember how “The Thundercats” ended?A one episode with all theese problems which could have well been prolonged and with a show of against the “champion” of the Ancient Spirits of Evil, implied to be stronger then Mum-Ra defeated in under 2 minutes.(Also, the old thundera flag looking like the SS flag was a nasty asociation :| )

  4. The Incredibles is one of those rare family films that has something for folks of all ages; from senior citizens to toddlers. There must be a sequel for films like this. As a middle-aged adult I completely enjoyed this and many of the other PIXAR films. They are intelligent, creative, and thoroughly entertaining.

  5. The Incredibles is my all time favorite animated movie. The character development and story is so far beyond anything else. The characters are realistically flawed and more human than in many live action films.

I hope Pixar makes a slew of sequels for The Incredibles. The kids growing up as heroes, maintaining secret identities, balancing real life and super hero life, keeping a marriage together, the re-emergence of heroes into the world, what is Jack-Jack….

There are hundreds of excellent plot lines to follow.

    ….just do Something!

  6. I respect Brad’s concerns regarding sequels, but a Incredibles II would be awsome!!! It’s a superhero movie…not the Godfather. The integrity of the film will not be in danger.

  7. I think they should have a sequel because thefirst one was hillarious and at the end when the underminer comes out of the ground they all put their masks on and mr. incredible opens up his shirt and all you see is the i for incredibles. so giving it a 1 through 5r stars I would give it a 4 and a half

Just bought The Incredibles on DVD,but also saw it when it came out.
Watched it this time with my 3 year old daughter, and I can say it is even better this time around.
Im a huge superhero fan,& The incredibles is as good as any of them.
Brilliant film…I would love to see a sequel.

  9. Jack Jacks powers are a combination of Colossus, Kitty Pryde, Nightcrawler, Human Torch, and Cyclops. Thats why we call him the human Colossakitty-firecrawlerlasereyes! best one i could think of..

  10. I saw him turn to fire ,stone and metal;but in the extra short called JACK-JACK ATTACK it seems like he can also teleport, levetate, float through walls, and use laser vision. Also in the actual movie when he wrips at Syndromes he loked like he turned into the devil or somthing.Im still not sure I understand him.

  11. I really hope they come out with a sequel, and if they do itll be as good,if not better than the first.Plus I think with an older JACK-JACK in the mix itll have even more energy than the original.I LOVED the first one ,and I don’t think a sequel will ruin it.

  12. I hope that Disney does not change Pixar’s “view” of sequels. I dislike that disney loves to make second rate sequel after sequel direct DVD. I think they are on Cinderella IV.

  13. TOY STORY WAS THE EXCEPTION.

WE HAVE MONSTERS INC., INCREDIBLES AND MANY MORE PIXAR FILMS, THAT WERE LEFT WITH OPEN ENDINGS, LEAVING THE POSSIBILITY FOR A SEQUEL. BUT I THINK DOING SEQUELS OF THOSE MENTIONED FILMS WILL RUIN THE FIRST ONES, CUZ THE MAGIC OF THOSE ENDINGS RELY ON THE FACT THAT THE CONTINUATION TO THE STORY IS LEFT TO THE VIEWERS IMAGINATION.

  14. Original movies please. No more Franchises. Move ’em to premium Cable TV where you can take 12 hours per year instead of 2 hours every 2 years…

Oh, and I caught a sneak of Ratatouille on the weekend. Pixars best film along with The Incredibles…And truly a major step in making animation geared towards adults in America.

Seriously, this is even more mature and complex thematically than The Incredibles. Keep it coming Mr. Bird…and I’ll repeat – original movies please, no sequels.

  15. if they make a sequel, they will wait til they have a good story with the characters. Like all Pixar’s movies, they have always had great stories and characters.

Pixar has been one of my favorites … always make great films.

  16. As much as I would love to have an Incredibles sequel I definitely don’t want it to be something tossed together. I really respect Brad Bird’s comment regarding sequels. If we ever see an Incredibles sequel I will be super hyped for it.

  17. I to would like to thank Pixar for never milking any of their franchises.

With the news recently of a Toy Story 3, it’s one fot he few sequels I can sleep easily knowing it will live up to expectations. I mean, what is the worst Pixar made movie?

Cars? – which was a still a pretty fantastic movie.
