Direct To Dvd Garbage Avalanche Cometh

Good article from the lovely webmaster over at spacejunk about some direct to dvd sequels that are en route. We get the following commentary from spacejunk:

Hey, who wants to hear about more of their favourite movies getting dug up and pissed on by movie studios that are desperate for a quick buck? I do! Clint over at Moviehole recently got a hold of a press release for the new Warner Premiere line of movies, and among the popular franchises slated to get direct to DVD sequels are Under Siege, Space Jam, Training Day, and… Beetlejuice. This after Tim Burton has been denying such a thing for years. Needless to say, he and Michael Keaton will not be involved, although Burton will likely still get an executive producer credit. I can’t wait to see who they bring on board to take over for Keaton in this role… Stephen Baldwin maybe? One can only hope.

These movies are made to be sold at grocery stores across the nation. It will be interesting to see how they market them. I wonder if the covers will look like the original films so people buy them by mistake.

When movies are pumped out like this without regard for quality or respect to the originals, they remind me of tabloid mags. You buy them with gum in the checkout line for the hell of it. I do not know if their is anyway to measure how successful these will be – but I hope they flop.

People are already going sequel/remake/re envisioning crazy; and now we have direct dvd shit to add to the fire. We are guilty however – we devour what we are given like starving animals, and when that happens – food quality drops. Because they know we will eat it. Our hunger for media outweighs our taste for quality, we need to get picky.

  1. Under Siege already had a sequel. I like the music, but not much else. And so began the end of Segal’s so-called “career.” I think he starts rumors about a “comeback” every once in a while jsut to piss people off. It works.
