It’s always nice to get some good news on a Monday, like today, lovely news that there are confirmed talks of Eva Longoria and Beyonce Knowles playing lovers in the new Sophia Coppola film Tipping the Velvet. Yes things started looking just a little bit better around the movieblog when the people over at digitalspy.com gave us this:
Eva Longoria and Beyonce Knowles are in talks to play lovers in a new movie. The pair are in negotiations with director Sofia Coppola for the lead parts in the movie Tipping The Velvet. The film is an adaptation of the novel of the same name, by Sarah Waters, and tells the story of a lesbian musician and her partner.
“We’ve had Brokeback Mountain so the time is right for this divine novel to get the same treatment,” Beyonce said.
Longoria added: “Yes it’s true, we’re talking about doing that. It’s such a wonderful novel, a beautiful love story.”
No complaints here. This is supposed to be a great book and it has been adapted once with good results on BBC Two back in 2002. So why not the big screen?
If Hollywood is going brokeback then the girls should get to go for a ride up the mountain too. I haven’t seen any really great lesbian movies since Bound and Gia.
My only concern is with the acting. Don’t get me wrong, I know that Eva has talent, and Beyonce isn’t terrible but…these sort of roles do require a good amount of screen presence, chemistry and subtly. None of which have been required from either actress in the past. Maybe the new film Dream Girls will convince me more of Beyonce’s acting chops and I know that Longoria has been talking for a long time about wanting to do something more serious so she will no doubt be putting in a lot of work for this role.
But still, if Sophia Coppola does cast both of these beautiful young women she will be taking a bit of a risk. Will they draw in hoards of men and curious women to see the movie? God yes. But will the film be better or worse because these two are involved? That remains to be seen.
Beyoncé – She’s Irreplaceable
I just found a neat Beyonce site with all her story detailed. Lots of interesting and unrevealed things in there.

This report is false. A lot of sites reported it, but as it turns out it’s a completely false rumor. Eva Longoria has said that any quotes attributed to her about this project were made up. Also, evidently, Sophia Coppola has no plans to bring this movie to the big screen.

lol alredo, i must say that this is the hottest news i’ve heard on the movie blog. eva longoria and beyonce, lesbians, thats all i needed to hear. who else wants a scene between those two like in Muholland Drive. if you’ve seen it you know what i mean. it will probably suck but i will go see it….without pants
peace
the idea is so hot I’m writing this post with my penis.
Need a film about lesian lovers? Get two hot thin, starlets of the moment.
Screw reality.
1 great singer.
1 hot tv vixen.
2 beautiful women.
Not a shred of acting talent between them.
Sorry, I would love to see these two make out as much as the next guy but I dont think I could bear sitting through a whole movie.
I think not. It doesn’t sound like Coppola; she prefers beauty over sexiness; think pasty, curvy white girls. It would be surprising if both characters were made ethnic. Plus, I can’t see Beyonce making a move towards art house (or politically liberal) films.
We can dream, though, can’t we?
Acting? Do we really care about acting when it comes to a movie like this? We all know why we’d want to see it. Stop kidding yourselves.
I don’t believe it. Beyonce has said nasty things in the past about gay people and she had to apologize for it. Why would she want to play a gay person when she thinks they’re all going to hell?
Besides, neither one of them can act a lick.
Seeing Longoria nekkid would be worth the rental alone, at least once. I’m curious as to how they’re going to portray the lesbian sex scenes!
Fucking Åmål (Show me love) is still the best lesbian themed movie I’ve seen, and that was made all the way back in 1998. You people should look it up if you haven’t seen it.
