J-Lo Leaves Dallas

Jennifer-Lopez Quits DallasHave you ever heard of the term “Addition by Subtraction”? It basically means you improve something by taking something out. That’s what just happened to the Dallas film project as Jennifer Lopez has ditched the film and split.

I actually posted months ago about the fact J-Lo wanted out, but as someone emailed me, it wasn’t official at the time… well it is now. I’ve talk before about how Halo is a mess right now… well hell… so is Dallas. Listen to what the good folks oat Dark Horizons tell us:

Reps for the actress, set to play Sue Ellen – the alcoholic wife of oil magnate JR Ewing (John Travolta), confirmed the news to the American publication Star. Earlier this year, “Legally Blonde” director Robert Luketic quit the project citing “creative differences” and was reportedly unhappy with casting choices. Bend It Like Beckham director Gurinder Chadha is now attached to direct the film.

Casting mistakes, director leaves, bad replacement director choice, and now cast dropping out? Wow… this project is in trouble.

But as I said in the opening… this is actually a good thing for Dallas. J-Lo can’t act. Can I be any more clear on that point? Despite her popularity, her films bomb, she is box office poison, and is the poster child for “Famous for being Famous”. I think she and Chris Tucker would make a great couple.

It’s never good news with cast drops out… but maybe this is the exception.

  1. IIRC, it was already being reported that J.Lo disrupted other intended cast members b/c she refused to allow any other “prima donnas” to work on the film (Jessica Simpson was lined up, until J put her foot down). Her departure won’t hurt the film.

  2. Listen. The only way this movie will make ANY money is bring J LO back. And put in J Love too. And get them doing a Cat Fight in a Dallas bar, all lathered up in some KY, and get them naked. There you go…Instant suck-sess!

Since that won’t happen… Can I have my money back?

  3. She does ok. The sad reality is the only female that can sell tickets is Julia Roberts.

  4. Now this movie REALLY will be a complete bore. J.Lo was the only interesting thing about it. Would anyone in our generation really be excited about going to see DALLAS movie? Oh yea, we’ll sure be lined up in the theatres with our cowboy hats and spurs intact! But seriously. I was wondering when J.Lo was gonna come to her senses and leave that piece of crap. Bet she never wanted to do it in the first place and was too embarassed to say no to Travolta b/c he kept asking her.

  5. I honestly could careless about this movie – I don’t think they should be making it in the first place, but the fact that J-Lo won’t be in it still makes me happy. She can’t act and needs to continue to fade away from the acting world.

  6. Oh god. I’ll be surprised if they manage to finish this movie in the next year at the rate that they’re going. As for J-Lo, I think she’s OK, depending on the role. She was pretty good as Selena and she was passable in “Cell” and “An Unfinished Life”. However, she does seem to turn people off of watching movies. I think she also suffers from Cruise syndrome.

  7. It’d be nice if J-Lo just kept bowing out of projects…It wouldn’t hurt my feelings at all if she was NEVER in the public eye again….

Can’t STAND that bitch and wish she’d go away…

    14:59 and counting…

  8. I don’t think she’s that bad of an actress either, and they’re reporting here out of the states as of this morning that she dropped out due to the filming being held at a bad time. She’s supposedly expecting and the baby would be due during the production of the film.

Even if she isn’t that great of an actress to most minds, who doesn’t like a little ghetto ass?

  9. And Drewbacca, don’t forget Anaconda!!!!

But, in all fairness, I used to like J Lo…but sadly, I would slowly come too share John Campea’s take on this actress. She might have been good in some films, but it’s like what John said in the last podcast -something I 100% agree on. An actor is only as good as the director.

    Her best roles:

    U Turn (Oliver Stone)
    Out Of Sight (Steven Soderbergh)
Anaconda (Louis Llosa, who does B films really well)

She wasn’t in Jersey Girl all that much, but that was helmed by Kevin Smith.

As for “Dallas’ the movie, I don’t want to give out bad mojo or anything, but this WAS a bad idea from the start. Better off doing a big screen version of Melrose Place.

    Wait. What did I say?

    Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

  10. Are you kidding me!!?

J-Lo is the perfect type of person to play a character in a god damn soap opera. Please, John.

It doesn’t matter if she can act or not, it’s a movie based on an 80’s primetime soap opera.

Not tomention, she was good (not amazingly great, but good) in
    U-Turn
    Selena
    Cell
    Out of Sight
    Jersey Girl
    An Unfinished Life

I know you’ve had this debate a million times, but I gotta press some buttons.

    ramble on…

  11. The reason I have an issue with this movie is because it’s based a serial drama. How can you possibly adapt that to film? With something like Dallas, what made it so good was the richness of it’s history and continuity and watching the characters grow over the years. I have no problem with recycling old TV shows, but Hollywood should pick them more carefully.

This movie is the dumbest idea ever, with or without J-Lo.

  12. I’m going to stick my neck out and make a bold prediction about Dallas – this film will be awful. AWFUL. In fact, this may well be the first major Hollywood film that is so bad it causes actual bodily harm, facial disfigurement, disorders of the penis, possibly even death. Should the worst happen and they replace J-Lo with the antichrist (Catherine Zeta-Jones, or – if you will – C-Zo), I believe this film may herald the coming of the apocalypse. I’m talking about war on the mountains of Megiddo – flames, wailing, gnashing of teeth – and no one wants any of that.

So why don’t we all agree to give this one a miss, hey?

  13. I know I’m preaching to the choir here, but I really find it hard to believe that Hollywood is so bereft of good original ideas that they find it necessary to recycle old television shows.
Maybe I’m the only one who didn’t like the original show.
Can’t see myself getting all riled up about the movie.

I mean bloody hell, it’s John Travolta as JR.
