Oh come on! Who among us didn’t love Gremlins when we were kids?!?! That movie ruled on so many levels. Yeah… I liked Gremlins 2 for some reason. How cute was Gizmo???? How awesome was Stripe??? (BY THE WAY, THE MAN WHO VOICED STRIPE, FRANK WELKER, IS THE VOICE MEGATRON IN THE TRANSFORMERS. Just a little trivia for ya).
But enough… is enough. However, not everyone thinks so. Apparently Warner Bros. is thinking of doing a Gremlins 3, and the former director of Gremlins, Joe Dante, hates the idea. The good folks over at Moviehole give us the following:
According to Dante, he set out to make 1990’s “Gremlins 2” in a way to “make sure there wouldn’t be” another film, but if Warner are keen “they’re welcome to it. I think what’s holding it up is that they can’t conceive of what to do because the first movies were defined by the technology, it was what the puppets could do and do well and not do and that’s what the movies became. Now you could do anything with CGI so the field is so open that nobody could focus on what exactly it should be. I can’t say I’m looking forward to seeing it.”
I agree with Dante. The main source of the charm of Gremlins was these little puppets… how damn cute they were… and how damn scary they were. I thin a puppet version of Gremlins today wouldn’t fly… and a CG incarnation would lose that charm. I could obviously be wrong, but those are my thougts.
So as much as I loved Gremlins… it’s just best for all involved to leave this one alone. But they won’t. Expect a Gremlins 3 film before 2009. Sigh.
I Think that I heard a Rumor that Mr.Dante will make a new movie Gremlins 3.Everyone love gremlins the movie my pops saw gremlins and gremlins 2.by next Gremlins 3 will be the coolest movie in the movie History.
they should make gizmo turn into a an actuall gremlin by eating and then he should kick all the bad gremlins asses.
It has to be a sequel with animatronics and puppets and release in theaters. The first two had great acting, music stunts and tons more. A 3rd and final flick can be great.
First of all, Gremlins was one of the best movie of the 80’s. The ending scared me as a kid, Stripe melting from the sun, was totally gross-I had nightmares as a kid-to this day I still can’t watch the ending! Gremlins 2 was awesome, and they totally left it open for a third movie-at the end of Gremlins 2, they show that guy in the bathroom and the girl gremlin in a wedding dress. So there was a gremlin left alive and then again gizmo is still chillin with Billy and his lady. For some crazy odd reason I thought the girl gremlin was hot. I would love to see a third!
I THINK GRIMLINS 3 AND 4 AND 5 WOULD BE GREAT. I LOVED GRIMLINS. BRINGEM BACK.
I agree that stripe was the most badass gremlin, way better than the “fake” stripe that became the spider gremlin. Ya that thing looked awesome but Stripe kicked ass without other forms. To my point, they could do so much with this movie. Like there are so many gremlins, or they are so badass that Gizmo himself is forced to eat after midnight and become a gremlin (a good one) himself! I have yet to hear anybody suggest this
I think there should be a gremlins 3, They should use puppets, cause the puppets were outstanding! and If there is a gremlins 3 Stripe better come back! or…. I will cry! Stripe was is and always will be my favorite gremlin. But there should be a part where stripe has a chainsaw about to kill gizmo but billy comes and savews gizmo, but stripe gets away! that would be awsome!

I have been wanting Gremlins 3 for a long time, and have been following the news, and even that news is pretty scarce. If there is another one, I hope it’s done right, and Joe Dante and Spielberg’s involved.

i got an idea the moms taking a shower with the door open and some water comes out and hits gismo he runs to the bedroom and goes uh oh and starts recarnating and they are smarter this time so they get on sunscreen and go out until midnight they all hide and at midnight they sneak in a resraunt and eat all the food so now there evil and they sneak home and hide in the morning they put on more sunscreen and go and terrorize the town but they go to buy more sunscreen and the kid owner of gizmo sells them fake its just goowey water and it washes sunscreen off so they go outside and they all burn and the city is safe once more from the gremlins!
I was researching Gremlins for a class project on our favorite movies and I fell upon this forum. I felt I had to speak up. Now, I haven’t seen Gremlins 2 but that was only because I didn’t know about it. The thought of a Gremlins 3 excites me but I don’t see the need to mess up the originality of the theme. The whole thing is that they are puppetes. Real things that you can touch and hold. It’s a lot different than CGI. I mean, with puppets they can maybe make a toy line of Gizmos! I know kids everywhere, and even adults, would love that idea. Especially for kids who can’t have pets. But, I digress. I just think that for all the Gremlin lovers out there, you might want to give it a try. Of course, if you don’t like their use of CGI, don’t see it again! :)
Parts of Gremlin 3 are already in the can. A film crew spent 3 weeks at Goring on Thames during November 2005 on location shots but its all gone real quiet since – does anybody know why?
there should be a gremlins 3, Gizmo is still to be recognised by many young kids that have never heard of him or had to the toy to understand what its about, a new audiance for gremlins would be great and I would like to see it happening with Gizmo everywhere and in the shops.
the CGI would work well if it was woven with puppets to make it the most realistic film ever like they did with titanic, they could pull off the biggest film in the box office!, a new audiance needs it people have been deprived of something good for a few years now, now why not have another film!
I think there should be a Gremlins 3- But with puppets! I like the idea of the gremlins taking over a plane. But you could do this and have many other things going on at the same time. Such as a gremlin running for president.
I’d like to see a third installment to the gremlins franchise. I would prefer if they used pupets CGI to me looks fake. From what I’ve gathered they need a new setting. If some how gremlins took control of a plane who is to say it wouldn’t have a terrorist sub-plot. If they got into the pilots seat they could crash any where.
I would like it if there was ever a gremlins 3 or a gremlins vs critters movie or comic.
Gremlins 2 is one of the best sequels ever!!!! So freaking funny. I’m going out right now to rent it.
The original’s a perfect little film, and they threw EVERYTHING they could into the sequel, so it’s hard to see where they would go with a third one. Gremlins Vs Critters?

I’ve actually given some thoughts to how a Gremlins 3 could work. Best that I could come up with was returning to the first film’s darker comedy feel. Now dig this:
Gizmo has been left outside for some reason, maybe he fell out a window or um…you know, terrorists. Anyway he’s outside and it starts to rain. We get a little “Uh Ohhh” from the puppet and we are off to the races. Eventually the whole of New York is ccovered in Gremlins, and the forcast for tommorow: more rain…and death…cooler by the lake.
But whatever they do, they HAVE TO keep the puppets. CGI contains no charm, no whimsy, no soul. Puppets are wounderous, just watch The Dark Crystal if you don’t believe me.
Why???
Because any movie that can barely cross the profit finish line will be made into a trilogy.
That’s why.

Oh, my bad. I thought Dante – who directed the last two- would be involved ((now let’s see a long overdue sequel to Innerspace!))

Gremlins 3 for a new generation who doesn’t know the rules? Count me in- and at least one cast member can return, aside from Mohawk General. {hint above] but I wouldn’t mind cameos from Pheobe Cates, Zach Gallager and maybe even Dick Smith.
Besides, it would be only a matter of time before someone would dust this Gizmo off…and an attempt to involve Joe Dante is brilliant. I wonder if Spielberg will return to put his name to it as well.

I always wondered why there was “only” two Gremlins films.
I loved the first one and thought the second was okay, but should be canned before it starts.
The only conceivable approach would be more or a prequel to give some history behind the Magois (spelling?) and perhaps we have it unfold into a massive battle between these creatures and the Furbies. Of course, a Furby would be sent back in time by John Connor to stop the event from happening. Wait.. that has been done. Nevermind. This G3 idea sucks.

I saw Gremlins but haven’t seen Gremlins 2. I thought it was hilarious and fun.
But this is great…I get to see a gremlins in theaters (i wasn’t around for the first two). But….realisitic or not, I think CGI is out of it. It NEEDS to be old-school animatronics, stop motion and whatnot. Therein lies much of the fun.
But it’ll probably be bad anyway.
Now to go rent Gremlins 2….
If they did Davy Jones quality CGI on the Gremlins count me in! Puppets have that nice charm n all but what you (well what I) want is something that is essentially as realistic as human actors. Ultimately its story that really counts and if they had a really good one, and a good director attatched I’ll absolutely give it a chance.
I would welcome another Gremlins, but if they use CGI instead of puppets then nothanks. And Gizmo is probably the cutest thing ever
