Star Trek voted most missed series

StarTrek.jpgAmazingly, despite the efforts of the people behind the Star Trek franchise, this series has come out tops in a poll on viewers most missed TV series.

Conducted by UK interactive TV firm Home Media Networks and reaching out to 1,000 viewers it shows a surprising side to the official line of why Enterprise was axed. The BBC say it was axed for poor ratings, and yet this straw poll suggests otherwise, and quite frankly we all know otherwise. Poor scheduling and advertising was really to blame, the show was pretty damn good.

The rest of the top ten looks like this:

1. Star Trek
2. Buffy the Vampire Slayer
3. Friends
4. Fawlty Towers
5. Blake’s 7
6. The X-Files
7. Babylon 5
8. Stargate
9. Seinfeld
10. The A-Team

It’s obvious this is a UK survey from a few of the entries. Who wouldn’t love to see a new Blake’s 7 show, or perhaps movie? Do you fancy movie versions of any of these? A few are rumoured.

  1. More Friends???? *rolling eyes*

I want to see back on the air – Futurama, Mystery Science Theater 3000, Angel & Firefly – and ONE more season of Seinfeld so they can end it correctly this time.

  2. hi: i agree. it’s cancellation came out of the blue., since whenever the wb shafted it to, it seemed to do well. i guess thats why the ending seemed thrown together quickly. on the bright side, there’s still rumour of a spike project…

naladahc: well, according to http://www.tvshosondvd.com the dvd set is available/soon to be in canada, and usa is to follow. if you can’t wait till then, its very easy to download a uktv capped version of the show, if not dvdrips by now.

  3. eh? stargate is in the top10? how so, it’s still being made! hell it’s even got a spinoff show (long overdue in the tv world)

my most missed show’s nowadays would be odyssey5, jeremiah, and carnivale.

odyssey5 and jeremiah both got the highest viewing figures amongst showtime’s lineup. howeverit was decided that showtime was going to stepdown the scifi content. if they get rid of shows tht people are watching for something else, no wonder people prefer hbo.

carnivale was an awesome hbo show, that i guess was jsut too weird for the general public.

these shows were too rich for their own good. high production values mean they coldn’t really be ressurected on other channels eg scifi, as the budget just wasn’t there. well tht’s my story, and i’m sticking with it.

ooh! that reminds me, how could i forget farscape?

although the miniseries was a fitting end, i wish there had been more.

    and then there’s lexx…

  4. I couldn’t bear to see Shatner in a Trek uniform now. I can just see Spoke mind-melding Kirk to curb his appetite. “Jim, you’re fat. It is illogical to consume copious amounts of organic matter…”

  5. I’d just be happy if so how we could get the new Doctor Who here in the states. I’ve always found the series to be slightly dry and there was always a pretty large continuity wall to overcome for a newbie but I so hoped this would change with the 9th Doctor.

Of course, we are now on the 10th and I’ve only seen the first episode Rose because of a bootleg download.

    *sigh*

However, we did snag a whole lotta Who on sale at Media Play yesterday so at least I can try to get through some of this.

  6. This is a weird and fantastic post. Star trek – Enterprise should not be missed. Because it was a very poor series, unlike the others in it. They only did it to milk the franchise and were too shy to boldly go where no one has gone before. Just like they are sadly trying to do with the crappy “mirror unicerse” idea to throw all the still remaining cast members in to the same movie. I mean they’ve talked about Hollywood being out of ideas and only doing remakes but come on. Altough since I’m a Trekkie I would very much like to see a new series on the subject.

And just like Darren said why indeed is StarGate on this list?

  7. I would replace ‘StarGate’ with any of the following:

    Crime Story

    Twin Peaks

    Joan Of Arcadia

    Sports Night

Now, why would ‘StarGate SG1’ not be missed?

Could it be the series is still in production and even had a spinoff ‘Atlantis’?
