Michael J. Fox in Back to the Future 4?

BacktotheFuture-Professor.jpgNow I could hardly believe this either, but apparently Michael J. Fox is actively in discussions about starring in a Back to the Future 4! Hold up Richard, what’s with the picture of the Professor I hear you ask, well, it’s because in an even more bizarre twist, that would be the role Fox would be playing!

From the Guardian comes the story…

The 44-year-old actor told Moviehole.net that he is in talks to star in a fourth, and final, film in the franchise, but that he would only do it if he could act his age on screen. “The only way it would work would be if I played Doc [the eccentric scientist played by Christopher Lloyd in the previous three films]. I’m 44-years-old now and I’m not interested in running around on skateboards! I think after 1, 2 and 3 we all kind of felt we had done it. And I think if they did it again now they would do it with a younger cast and just do a different realisation of it, which would be fun.”

So the hackles are straight up with the sequel\realisation part of all this, but there’s another part of me that is thinking this would be the coolest movie. Seeing Fox back on screen and especially taking the role of the Professor. I don’t think he means that literally as playing the part of the Professor, but perhaps showing Marty older and being a new Professor himself…and daft as it may sound, I kinda like that.

  1. I am totally in for another Back to the Future! I hope they go to colonial times! It was totally awesome in Part 3 when Doc ended up in 1885! Maybe they will have Marty and The Brown family land in the 1700’s! I hope they make 3 more movies!

  2. Hey it got my attention immediately when i heard about.

But this is what I think realistically. keep original characters escpecially doc. Twist the story to blend with the last. have all the fun with whatever story about marty being doc and have doc find him for his errors in science. make the ending with corruption in space time continium etc.. I don’t know im not a hollywood writer just a good fan watching good movies comeback with out original cast an storyline. the movie would have to be 2 and half hours for sure…. keith morin canada

  3. The back to the future movies were great. Anything that Michael J. does would be great. Me and my family and friends would all go out to see anything that he would do. And I have a big family. It really urks me that these losers who think there movie critics give there negative opinion on the idea of this movie. If this movie came out it would do great in the box office.

  5. I love Michael J. Fox and would love to see him in another movie but it dosent have to be Back to the Future 4. I think his health is more important then any movie could be.I just would not like to see him in any situation were he would be at risk or in danger. If he ever did decide to do another film I would go see it no matter what it is.To me his health means more then any movie ever could.

  6. There will be no Back to the future Part 4 !!!

It was just only an interview in which michael told what if…..

    there was no

“actively in discussions about starring in a Back to the Future 4”

so, as i told you, there’ll be no further part of bttf…..

  7. Fox is great on Scrubs. It makes me sad to see him ill I wish we could find a cure so he can get back to acting full time. I hope he does more Scrubs episodes. As for Back to the Future it may be a bit much for him to take on but maybe a cameo in a remake or sequel about Marty’s kid or something.

  8. I was shocked to hear that Fox was up for doing a fourth movie,

Me and all my mates who liked the previous movie’s think that its a great idea, The guy is a damn LEGEND!

Micheal.J.Fox has actually starred in Scrubs very recently so anyone who says he gave up acting is a bit wrong.

  9. I THINK ITS A GREAT IDEA!!!!!!!!!! THE HELL WITH THE REST OF YOU LOSERS MICHAEL J. FOX IS A GREAT ACTOR EVEN W/HIS CONDITION. LETS NOT FORGET THAT HE HAS WORKED IN OTHER ROLES WITH GREAT ACCEPTANCE AND CONTROL OF HIS CIRCUMSTANCES. (SPIN CITY! WHICH AIRED FOR ABOUT 5 SEASONS W/ MICHAEL J. FOX) I AM ABSOLUTELY POSITIVE THAT MR. FOX HIMSELF WOULD NOT PLACE HIMSELF IN HARMS WAY, NEITHER WOULD HE GIVE US LESS THAN A GREAT FILM.

  10. Much as I love the BTTF films, it’s better if they leave it alone. But who am I kidding, I will watch it should it be done. And I am with Goon on this too, that as much as I am a massive Star Wars fan, I am also one of those NOT VERY KEEN to see Episodes 7, 8, 9, or whatever.

  11. same universe? iffy…

same title, or title as “BTTF 4”? no way… doing this would be like calling the Scorpion King “The Mummy 3” or the Ewok Adventures “Star Wars Episode 7” and “Episode 8″…

  12. I would love to see him do something. Maybe he has his Parkinsons (or was it MS?) under control. But I would rather see him do something else. He has been away for awhile.

  13. Good god NO! I’m sorry I absolutely LOVE these films and I can’t see how it would be a good thing to bring back this franchise. I was so sure that THIS would be the one collection of films that would NEVER change. And here we go.

Don’t they do like a vote on these things with the general public first??? Or do they just want to milk that cash cow for all its worth….

  14. Back to the Future, like Indiana Jones, was a product of the style of movies of the time. The BTTF trilogy almost outranks Star Wars as my favourite movie series of all time.

But while initially I was stoked for the idea of Indy 4, as much as BTTF 4 when the rumours about both originally started back in the late 90s, the more time goes on the more I think it’s a bad idea.

It’s easy to say that if they work they’ll be amazing and if they don’t they still won’t directly affect the originals, but why take the risk?

Some things are perfect left as they are. Doc’s speech before zooming off in his train was as perfect a way to give final closure to the series as the ride into the sunset with his father was for the Indy saga.

I’d hate to see Harrison and Michael embarrass themselves and their cinematic legacies with poor man’s follow-ups simply to cater to the plague that is that good old lack of originality cleverly veiling itself as mining people’s misguided nostalgia.
