It was a very slow week at the Box office. However, strong word of mouth and a total lack of any quality competition has kept Steve Carell’s fantastic comedy, The 40 Year Old Virgin, at the top spot taking in $16.4 million. Yeah that’s right… the #1 movie only took in $16.4 million.
But I mean seriously… look at what’s out there! The Brothers Grimm was a terrible movie. The Cave was almost as bad as Grimm, and third film opening was yet another Music Star trying to be a movie star film called Undiscovered with Ashlee Simpson which only took in…. are you ready for this… $690,000. Just over half a million. Wow!
And guess what… it’s not about to get any better. This coming week is going to be another box office bomb. All we have to look forward to is Underclassman (yuck), A Sound of Thunder (Yuck… hands up for people who have even heard of this), The Constant Gardener (which doesn’t look horrible… but had ZERO marketing support) and the only film this week that looks like it may had a shot at breaking $20 million, The Transporter 2 (I’m looking forward to this one).
Once again Hollywood… don’t you dare talk about how illegal film downloading is killing your business. Crap films like the ones we’re being subjected to over last week and this next week is what’s keeping people away.
