D.E.B.S. an old man’s fantasy?

DEBS.jpgI had to do a double take at the blurb for this story as I thought I had stumbled across the wrong type of movie for a second…apparently not. Listen to this:

PLOT: The D.E.B.S. — an elite teenaged espionage group — have to rethink their values when their lead girl falls in love with their lesbian nemesis, crime bossette Lucy Diamond.

That’s the short summary from an article in Jam movies. Totally bizarre. I’ve never seen this film, but I am intrigued, and not just for the usual obvious boy reason. Okay, well that’s 10% of it. Okay 20%. Damn you! 50% then. Yeah I give up.

This spoof of espionage bimbos has cute schoolgirls sporting kilts and kneesocks and automatic weapons. They talk about clothes and boys and shoot at bad guys…

…D.E.B.S. is breezy and silly and laugh-out-loud funny, full of throw-away lines and absurd humour.

Can I just shake my head and smile for a moment…Oh dear, innuendo central. Looking at the IMDB listing it actually seems to have been getting some fair press and might be worth giving it a shot. Has anyone seen this absurd sounding movie? Is it worth seeing, or just a cheap line pitched at gullable men? (I’m there!)

  1. this movie kicks butt. definitely see it. a total winner, in my opinion although when you first begin to watch it, you are very suprised if you did not read the back of the DVD case.

  2. I actually noticed this the other day when IMDBing the woman from The Big Bounce (Sara Foster). Turns out she is in D.E.B.S. which may by enough reason alone to check out the flick.

  3. Umm.. yeah, if you liked Scary Movie you’ll like this one… :D (not that they have anything in common, but the targeted audience is the same). I wouldn’t give it any freakin’ stars at all, completely stupid teenage movie. But maybe that’s just me…

  4. Saw it at last year’s Helsinki Film Festival and I’d say it’s exactly what the blurb says. Doesn’t take itself too seriously and even though at times it’s easy to see that it wasn’t made with all that much money, it’s entertaining enough to make you not care. Certainly not made just for guys to get their kicks, sorry ;). Actually, it’s probably a bit tamer than the 15 min short film it’s based on.

  5. I saw this last night and loved it. I wasn’t sure what to expect of it, but it’s really funny. It’s got some sexy scenes (not too much considering they were aiming for a PG-13–the first for a lesbian themed movie), some laugh out loud scenes and the whole thing is very cheesy, but ON PURPOSE. Very nudge nudge wink wink kind of film. Plus most of the cast has serious chemistry together. Very good movie.
