Trailer for The Weatherman with Nicolas Cage

nicolas_cage_5.jpgNow there’s something that just tickled my interest, the trailer for The Weather Man. It looked to me like it was travelling the road of mid-life crisis man tries to get back with his family, eerily reminiscent of The Family Man, also with Nicolas Cage. Then something happened, half way through the trailer things just shifted slightly and the whole bow and arrow thing just made me take a step back.

Looks exceedingly interesting, but is it a second crack at The Family Man ideal, and can Cage hold back that wildness to bring out a more sedate performance? Here’s hoping, I think he has flashes of genius in amongst some of the movies he’s been in, and it just takes someone to pull that out of him. With Michael Caine co-starring and Gore Verbinski directing, wouldn’t those be the very people needed?

  1. well i have to say that this movie looks like a great family film considering that my neighbor is the mother of one of the film directors…and that i was lucky to be in the background scenes! hurray! but yes i think that this movie has a lot of meaning to fathers because all he did was read a blue screen with words on it and came home and ate dinner…and kept doing that, so then he learned that he needed to get in his familys life…which thats what most fathers do and its a great story! cant wait to see it!

  2. I don’t have too much to say about “The Weatherman”. The trailer makes it seem like a fun family feature, yet it carries an R-rating for Strong Language and Sexual Content.
It has to be decent, though, considering Cage and Caine (two Oscar winners) are in it, but I’m not too sure if director Gore Verbinski, best known for Pirates of the Caribbean, is up for the job.
I’ll have to learn more about this movie before I comment further.

  3. Yeah but what’s wrong with feel good movies done well? I mean, every other movie has been updated, why couldn’t teh Family Man rip off It’s a Wonderful Life?

I think it was a great film because it made the traditional “boring” life of a family and kids seem so romantic and exciting… which apparently is what this new movie is hoping to do as well. And Spanglish does that also I believe, although I’ve yet to see it.

I think that Hollywood is bowing to the Red State values, and finding that it’s new and interesting and a lot of good plot lines there have yet to be visited. I agree with Richard, and I can’t wait to see it.

  4. The movie The Family Man was just piss poor rip off It’s a Wonderful Life. This new movie however looks good mainly because it about man dealing with the issues at hand with divine intervention.

  5. Nope…looks way too “typical” — and the bow-n-arrow thing is just there to try to throw you off track and make you think that something “cool” will happen — but I can almost promise you that this movie will be LAME.
