Gentleman Broncos

HessIt looks like Napoleon Dynamite director and scribe Jared Hess has completed another script and is ready to rock. We get the scoop thanks to our friends at FirstShowing:

Gentleman Broncos is a script that Hess wrote with his writing partner and wife, Jerusha Hess, who also worked on his first two films. The plot description comes courtesy of JoBlo. The film “follows a high school outcast who’s an aspiring fantasy author. He attends a fantasy convention to show off his work and finds his supposed masterpiece – ‘Yeast Lords’ – ripped off by legendary novelist Ronald Chevalier, who has turned desperate for ideas.”

School of Rock writer and Year of the Dog director Mike White will be producing. It sounds like this will be debuting at Sundance 2009, so keep on the look out for more on Gentleman Broncos then, if not earlier. They’re shooting in Utah, the same place as they shot Napoleon and the home state of Sundance.

I loved Napoleon Dynamite, I consider it a perfect film for what it was and find myself watching it every 4 months or so. It is a movie that celebrates the magical in the mundane and it really struck a chord with me as a delightfully original comedy. This is a film on my must see list of movies.

I am not sure what to think about this plot outline. It seems like it is a rip off of Napoleon Dynamite, by the author of Napoleon Dynamite. Time will tell. I can tell you that a story about a high school loser that has his fantasy novel ripped off if fucking hilarious. I think this film can work, if the main character has strong differences to Napoleon Dynamite.

This movie screams for scenes where people are playing Dungeons and Dragons. I remember the first time I played D&D, it was magical. The DM and 3 of my friends were in an abandoned house drinking an insane amount of soda pop, we played non stop for like 12 hours and were back again the next 2 days to do it all over again. When my elf rogue got killed in a graveyard by a level 5 vampire I was insanely pissed. I have grown up loving geek games, sci fi, fantasy and look forward to movies that celebrate hobbies that I continue to enjoy (much to the confusion of my lady friend).

I look forward to this one, and will pilfer the web daily for updates!

  1. I was an extra in this movie. I think the ronald chevaier character is going to be the funniest thing about this movie. The main character is the guy from sky high…:/

  2. Napoleon Dynamite was actually shot in Idaho – in Preston/Franklin – to be exact. It’s about 30 miles North of the Utah border, where I live, in Logan. And if you’ve ever been to Preston, then you realize that Hess nailed the characters to a “T.” In fact, Napoleon actually reminds me of a kid I knew from Preston. We called him Purple Lips McGee. He was a magician and looked like an alcoholic Hobbit.

  3. I have met people in real life like Napolean – I shit you not.

I love you bigsampson, but I love this movie too.

Napolean was an eccentric character with varied and peculiar interests that blended into the background. The movie champions the fact that everyone has something great to share, even the people you never notice.

It is not for everyone, but I love it.

What class do you play in wow
