The wait for the final chapter of the blockbuster franchise is officially underway. Sony Pictures has released the first trailer for Jumanji: Open World, offering fans a glimpse at the high-stakes conclusion to the current trilogy. This time around, the stakes are higher than ever as the game itself escapes the confines of its console to wreak havoc on the real world.
The upcoming film reunites the core cast, including Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan. While the team has successfully navigated the perilous jungles of the game in previous entries, the shift in setting promises a fresh dynamic for the final installment. Directed by Jake Kasdan, who also co-wrote the script with Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg, the movie is set to hit theaters exclusively on December 25, 2026.
Bringing the Jumanji experience into the real world is a natural progression for the series. After spending two films exploring the digital landscape of the game, seeing these characters deal with the chaos of the game in a grounded, everyday setting provides a fun twist for the finale. It raises the stakes for the audience, as the danger is no longer contained to a screen but is now impacting the world at large.
A Star-Studded Reunion
Beyond the core four, the ensemble cast for this final adventure is packed with familiar faces. The film features returning talent such as Alex Wolff, Madison Iseman, Morgan Turner, Ser’Darius Blain, and Rhys Darby. Additionally, the production has confirmed appearances from Nick Jonas and Danny DeVito, rounding out a massive group of performers for what is being billed as the final chapter of this specific iteration of the franchise.
Behind the Scenes
The production team behind the camera is just as robust as the cast. Matt Tolmach, Jake Kasdan, Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia, and Hiram Garcia are serving as producers. The project is based on the original book by Chris Van Allsburg, who also serves as an executive producer alongside Barry Waldman, Melvin Mar, William Teitler, Ted Field, Mike Weber, Jeff Pinkner, and Scott Rosenberg.
