The cast and filmmakers behind Disney’s highly anticipated live-action reimagining of Moana recently gathered at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles to celebrate the film’s world premiere. The event featured a unique live-to-film experience with the LA Phil performing the score as the movie played for the audience.
The evening began with an introduction by director Thomas Kail and producer Lin-Manuel Miranda. The presentation included a traditional Pacific ceremony and a performance by the Nonosina dancers, setting the stage for the film’s upcoming theatrical release. The screening concluded with a fireworks display.
A Star-Studded Celebration
Attendees included stars Dwayne Johnson, who plays Maui and serves as a producer, and Catherine Lagaʻaia, who stars as the titular character. Other cast members in attendance included Rena Owen, John Tui, and Frankie Adams. The event also drew a wide array of the film’s production team, including producers Beau Flynn, Dany Garcia, and Hiram Garcia, alongside executive producers Scott Sheldon and Auliʻi Cravalho.
Beyond the film festivities, Johnson used the occasion to continue his long-standing partnership with Make-A-Wish. During the global press tour for the project, the actor surpassed 200 wishes granted throughout his 25-year history with the organization, including eight wishes fulfilled at the premiere itself.
Bringing Moana to Life
This new version of the story follows Moana as she voyages beyond the reef of Motunui alongside the demigod Maui to restore prosperity to her people. The production features a new song titled Along The Way, written by Miranda and performed by Cravalho, Lagaʻaia, and Johnson. The film is set to open exclusively in theaters on July 10, 2026.
