DC Studios Reportedly Developing Poison Ivy Series for The Batman Universe

A new report suggests that DC Studios is in the early stages of developing a Poison Ivy TV series. While the character is a staple of the Batman rogues gallery, the potential project is reportedly taking a unique approach to the iconic villain.

According to a recent episode of The Hot Mic, the series is moving forward at the studio. Perhaps most notably, the report claims the show will not be part of the main DC Universe overseen by James Gunn. Instead, it is expected to reside within the grounded, gritty world established by director Matt Reeves in his The Batman film and the spin-off series The Penguin.

A Grounded Take on a Classic Villain

The Batman franchise has been defined by a realistic, grounded sensibility. This creative choice raises questions about how a character traditionally known for supernatural plant-controlling abilities would fit into such a world. The report suggests the series could reimagine the character as a botanist who evolves into a cunning ecoterrorist. In this version, she would rely on survival skills and an expert knowledge of toxins rather than fantastical powers.

This approach would align with the tone of the existing films, though it remains to be seen how the character might evolve. There have been ongoing rumors that the upcoming sequel to The Batman may incorporate more traditional comic book elements, which could potentially open the door for a more recognizable version of the character down the line.

As of now, the project remains in the development phase. Fans of the franchise will have to wait for further official confirmation from the studio regarding the direction of this potential series.
