Supergirl is about to make DC Universe history. The upcoming film will deliver the franchise’s first PG-13-rated F-bomb, marking a bold shift for the character typically portrayed as a beacon of hope. Director Craig Gillespie’s take on Kara Zor-El leans into a grittier, more rebellious iteration of the hero, and the studio is carefully choosing where to place its one allowable expletive.
Who Gets the Honor?
According to a recent set visit report, the filmmakers are debating whether Milly Alcock’s Kara or Jason Momoa’s Lobo will drop the line. While some insiders suggest Kara herself might say it, others argue the foul-mouthed intergalactic bounty hunter is the more natural choice. DC Studios’ Executive Vice President of Production confirmed the team is “having a lot of fun” with the decision, though they’re mindful not to overdo it.
A Different Tone for Supergirl
This marks a departure from the character’s usual family-friendly tone. The film’s synopsis hints at a darker chapter for Kara, forcing her to confront her origins while teaming with an unlikely ally. Alongside Alcock, the cast includes Eve Ridley, Matthias Schoenaerts, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham, and Momoa as Lobo. The movie aims to explore more emotionally charged territory, aligning with the character’s comic-book arcs.
Whether Kara or Lobo gets the honor, the F-bomb underscores DC’s willingness to experiment with its PG-13 offerings. Similar to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which featured the MCU’s first theatrical F-bomb, the move signals a calculated push to attract older audiences without alienating younger fans.
Supergirl hits theaters June 26, 2026. The film will be available in theaters nationwide.
