Phillip Kennedy Johnson has signed a multi year contract to write comics only for Marvel. The agreement starts in January 2026. It follows the release of his new Hulk story, Infernal Hulk, which hits shelves this Wednesday.
First, the deal gives Marvel a proven storyteller for its biggest heroes. Second, it lets Johnson focus on long term projects without juggling other publishers. Moreover, fans will see a steady flow of new titles from his pen.
Johnson’s Career Highlights
Since breaking into the industry in 2015, Johnson has written for both Marvel and DC. He has crafted stories for The Hulk, Batman & Robin, Superman and many others. He also co‑created The Fellspyre Chronicles for DC Black Label. In addition, he has worked with BOOM! Studios, Archaia, IDW and Scout Comics.
Infernal Hulk picks up after the epic clash with the Eldest, the first child of the Mother of Horrors. The Eldest uses the power of the Strongest There Is to start a new Age of Monsters. This plot threatens the entire Marvel Universe. Johnson says the Hulk arc is the most ambitious story he has ever written.
Future Marvel Projects
Johnson plans several dream titles for 2026 and 2027. He promises readers that each project will push the limits of superhero storytelling. He also notes that his son, who grew up on ripped‑up Marvel and DC comics, gave him full support for the new direction.
Continuing Work with DC
Although the Marvel exclusive contract begins in January, Johnson will finish his current DC runs. He will wrap up Batman & Robin and Adventures of Superman: Book of El next year. He stresses that his friendships at DC remain strong.
When he is not drafting scripts, Johnson teaches Creative Writing at The Joe Kubert School. He also performs as a trumpet player in the Washington, DC area. His musical career includes time with the U.S. Army Field Band, the Glenn Miller Orchestra and the Dallas Opera.
Readers can look forward to fresh Hulk adventures, new team books and bold crossover events. Johnson assures fans that he will not let them down. He adds that making cool comics with friends is his greatest motivation.
The Phillip Kennedy Johnson Marvel exclusive contract marks a new chapter for both creator and publisher. It promises a steady stream of exciting stories for Marvel fans. As Johnson steps fully into the Marvel universe, the comic world eagerly awaits what he will build next.
