Will Smith Exits ‘Slow Horses’ Series, Gaby Chiappe Takes Over

‘Slow Horses’ Creator Will Smith Exits Series

Apple TV+ spy thriller series ‘Slow Horses’ has lost its creator, Will Smith, after four seasons. Smith, a British Emmy-winning creator, has been the driving force behind the show since its inception, serving as writer and executive producer. He was also the ‘showrunner in everything but name’ since the first season.

Smith’s exit marks a significant change for the series, which has gained a loyal following and critical acclaim for its unique blend of espionage and humor. The upcoming fifth season, set to premiere on September 24th, will be his last on the show.

Who’s Taking Over?

Gaby Chiappe, known for her work on ‘The Beast Must Die’ and ‘Their Finest’, has been handed the reins for the sixth season, which has already completed filming. After that, Ben Vanstone, credited for ‘A Gentleman in Moscow’ and ‘All Creatures Great and Small’, will take over for the seventh season, which is aiming to begin filming in September/October.

Chiappe’s appointment follows a string of high-profile showrunners leaving their respective series in recent times, including Matt Owens’ exit from the live-action ‘One Piece’ after its second season and Neil Druckmann’s decision to opt out of the third season of HBO’s ‘The Last of Us‘.

‘Slow Horses’ follows a group of disgraced MI5 agents who are relegated to menial tasks after various failures. Led by Gary Oldman as the sour and sardonic Jackson Lamb, the ensemble includes Jack Lowden as River Cartwright, Kristin Scott Thomas as Diana Taverner, Sophie Okonedo as Ingrid Tearney, Jonathan Pryce as David Cartwright, and Hugo Weaving as Frank Harkness.

Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta, Julian Stevens, Iain Canning, Emile Sherman, Adam Randall, Herron, Gail Mutrux, Douglas Urbanski, and Oldman remain onboard as executive producers.
