Steve Carell joins the “Magic Kingdom of Landover”

It seems that Steve Carell won’t be finished with the world of magic after completing ‘Burt Wonderstone’ with Jim Carrey as news has hit the web that the popular comedic actor has just joined the production of “Magic Kingdom of Landover”

…our friends at Hollywood.com have learned that Steve Carell will lead Magic Kingdom of Landover, making him one of the very first people to get involved here.

Having been adapted by screenwriter Craig Wright, Brooks‘ original novel centered on “a recently widowed lawyer who finds an advertisement in an upscale Christmas catalog claiming to offer a magical kingdom for $1 million by a man named Mr. Meeks. After he purchases Landover, he discovers he must unite the kingdom’s denizens and creatures to stop an evil demon bent on destroying the realm.”

Sounds like an interesting premise and a good opportunity to Careell to stamp his brand of comedy all over this film. I don’t know enough of the book to make a decisive judgement on his participation in the project but I’m sure some of you more knowledgeable than I will be sure to chime in and set me straight in the comments.

Well have at it!

  1. I think Steve could pull off this part well honestly. they should just go for it. Every adaptation    I have seen the characters generaly what had in mind however most have worked out great.

  2. Well, Steve’s not just comedy in that he’s had some rather poignant moments on screen.  Quirky? Yes.  So, not really a fan of his, but can see him in this role.  Interesting choice, certainly.

  4. This is not a comedy…..I was really looking forward to this book on the movie screen, but casting the lead to comedic actor?? I am now very apprehensive about it… I think they made a mistake at casting on this one…this series has 5 books…. they could of went with a strong “no name” for this with some well knowns for supporting roles….think it would of worked out better….will have to wait and see…..hope they dont screw it up it is a great series by a very talented author….I wonder what Terry Brooks thought of the casting?

  5. I can’t stand Steve Carrell and he’s definitely wrong for Ben. I could see him as Abernathy or even Questor, but I don’t think he’s capable of delivering the more sardonic and serious role of Ben.

  6. Love Steve Carrell, but I don’t see him as one of the main characters of Landover, especially Ben. Maybe Abernathy or one of the Bunions, but not Ben Holiday.

The magic kingdom of landover is not a comedy, and I truly hope that the film is not approached as such. In comparison to some other works in the fantasy world it is much lighter, but not on a comedic note.
