Tom Hardy will play Al Capone in Cicero

Harry Potter director David Yates has a project coming up about Al Capone. Seriously, that news is more than enough to garner some interest. Now let’s rephrase that with “David Yates has a project coming up with Tom Hardy playing Al Capone”. See how much better this sounds already?

Tom Hardy said he will play the Depression-era Chicago crime boss sometime next year and well into 2014:
Tom Hardy: ‘I’ve been working with Warner Bros., watching their gangster films – the ones with James Cagney, Humphrey Bogart and Edward G. Robinson. It’s interesting to get them, and a bit of Capone, into the bloodstream.”

Cicero, Illinois was where Al Capone set up headquarters, so he could operate outside the city limits of Chicago during the 1920s.

Details are scant at this point, but I don’t think they need to say anything else for quite a while. Hardy portraying a menacing person? Easy. Hardy portraying the menacing Al Capone? Where do I pre-order tickets? I’m really intrigued by a “post-Potter” David Yates nose diving into a completely different type of film than the last four Harry Potter movies and can’t wait to see what he can do. Anyone else liking the sound of this?

  1. Tom Hardy will be the next Gigantic Super Movie Star. Dark Knight Rises will make him a household name, this movie will show how well he can act. I know he has already had those roles but not in the mainstream world.

  2. I can’t imagine how difficult it is for actors to get into physical roles. Hardy was normal sized, then became super jacked up and now he has to get fat… Geez, it’ll be a pain if he couldn’t lose the weight after this movie.

      1. Should be easy enough. Celebrities can afford personal trainers, dietitians, nutritionists etc. They also have the luxury of time. They don’t have 9 to 5 jobs all year long like the rest of us.
