Official “Re5ident Evil: Retribution” synopsis FINALLY available

In between all the twittering that Milla Jovovich has done with all levels of in-depth reveals for the latest film I somehow hadn’t noticed that this film had not yet released an official synopsis. Hell, I’m not sure if anything has been officially released up until this point, but here we are ending the drought thanks to the fine folks at Screen Gems.

The Umbrella Corporation’s deadly T-virus continues to ravage the Earth, transforming the global population into legions of the flesh eating Undead. The human race’s last and only hope, Alice (Milla Jovovich), awakens in the heart of Umbrella’s most clandestine operations facility and unveils more of her mysterious past as she delves further into the complex. Without a safe haven, Alice continues to hunt those responsible for the outbreak; a chase that takes her from Tokyo to New York, Washington, D.C. and Moscow, culminating in a mind-blowing revelation that will force her to rethink everything that she once thought to be true. Aided by newfound allies and familiar friends, Alice must fight to survive long enough to escape a hostile world on the brink of oblivion. The countdown has begun.

For all those true R.E. fans this must be great news! For the rest of us casual viewers who feel that this series is more of a “guilty pleasure”, it’s more of the same. “Alice vs. Zombies plus some more characters from the game!”. Yep, has “guilty pleasure” written alllll over it. Now all we need is a trailer…

Re5ident Evil: Retribution will be released in 2D and 3D theaters in the U.S. on September 14th, 2012.

  1. Have to agree with Andrew here. First film got the vibe of the games right, but ever since then, the franchise has been an embarrassment to the motion picture industry and the game’s roots.

I think it’s about time we started looking for higher standards from video game conversions.

  2. They aren’t actually calling it Refivedent Evil: Retribution, are they? They should’ve just gone with 5 Resident 5 Evil, using now defunct Fast and Furious nomenclature.

But seriously guys, Resident Evil or Underworld for greatest modern horror franchise? And by greatest of course I mean ‘greatest’

  3. Ugh, pull the plug on this already. As a fan of the games, I will admit, I found the first film to be adequate, and I didn’t hate it as much as other fans did, since, although it didn’t follow the source material that well at all, and it introduced Alice (a character not from the games) and it had no characters from the games, it did do a good job of capturing the spirit and atmosphere of the games. It captured the dark, claustrophobic atmsophere of the games well, as well as the survival horror elements, but the sequels dropped that in favor of being action movies. To tell you the truth, I would be more than happy to consider them to be guilty pleasures if the movies were called something other than Resident Evil, because, while I personally feel the the first film was adequate and okay, the sequels really dropped the ball and missed the point of the series. I think that this series should be discontinued, and if possible, rebooted by someone who knows what he’s doing. (Dreams of a Christopher Nolan directed Resident Evil movie.)
