Adam Sandler planning a Grown Ups 2

There are a few Adam Sandler movies of recent memory that I actually enjoyed. I tend to gravitate toward anything he does that has him working in a dramatic role, or as close as he gets to one, and really enjoyed Grown Ups as an entertaining film. It’s not perfect, but you know what you’re getting when you buy a ticket for one of his movies anyway. Today we learn that his highest grossing film, Grown Ups, may get a sequel in the near future.

Sony Pictures and Happy Madison Prods. are in talks with “Grown Ups” scribe Fred Wolf to write a sequel to last year’s Adam Sandler comedy, the funnyman’s highest-grossing film worldwide at $271 million.
Sandler has never appeared in a sequel and he has no deal in place for “Grown Ups 2,” as his involvement is contingent on the script. Still, the fact that Sandler would be open to a reunion likely comes as music to Sony’s ears. Happy Madison had no comment.

I liked the movie, probably more than most, but I just don’t see why the movie needs a sequel. I’m up for just about any excuse to get these SNL alum’s together in a film but Grown Ups really seemed like it was complete for what it was. I’m not sure what excuse they’ll use to reunite the cast this time but I am open to the idea if they’re able to really hammer out a good script. I’ll keep you guys posted…

    1. marketing. people went expecting the funniest film ever. they didnt get it, but had already pd the ticket price. but s sequel wnt work, cause (some) people will have learned from the first film.

  1. I’m surprised that it was Sandler’s most profitable film. He has much better movies. I only found Grown Ups to be moderately entertaining, and I really don’t see where they can go with a sequel.

  2. i really enjoyed grown ups.. i personally believe it’s the best movie of 2010.. abouth the sequel.. i’m not sure if ther’s going to be as good as the first..
as for the ‘the excuse’ or the reason to join all the guys together again.. i think it would probably be the triple wedding of Rob’s daughters..
nothing else comes to my mind really

  3. Grown-Ups definitely didnt live up to the hype. With these 5 comedy superstars on board, it was expected to be, and should’ve been an instanct cinema comedy classic. But the writing was okay, and it seemed like 5 guys really trying to force it and make it work. It could’ve been really funny, but they tried too hard to make it funny, so it kind of failed. I’ts one of those cases where the box office can make you think it was successful, but in actuality, people went hoping to see a great film but left disapponted (another example: Clash of the Titans). The money was already paid, so it looks like audiences loved the film. But most people left thinking they wanted their money back. anyway, a sequel would need some great press ahead of time, or people wont be suckered again. straight-to DVD, maybe

  4. I believe that a sequel wouldn’t be a good idea because the movie itself was fine for what it was. It was a cute family type movie say for the occasional adult joke or innuendo. Making a sequel to this movie would be like beating a dead horse, there is no point. I’m saying this because the way the movie ended it left a lot to the imagination to the viewer to let them decide or imagine how everyone’s life turned out after the vacation.
Although on the flip side it would be interesting to see how the lost and found relationships were maintained between vacation visits. People as a whole, myself included, are intrigued by that notion and are willing to make the trip to the theater to see and even revell in the nostalgia of the prior encounter as the characters are sure to do.
Mostly I’m heads or tails on this notion of a sequel, although if one isn’t made then I won’t lose any sleep over it. Good post and looking foward to more in the future.
