Wolverine delay will be short, says Jackman

By the way Hugh Jackman talks, someone might think ‘Wolverine’ is about to be back on track soon. While promoting ‘Real Steel’ at CinemaCon, the actor gave the update on his next reprisal of the X-Men character. The LA Times reports:

Jackman said the tart of photography should only be delayed a matter of weeks. But the film also could need to change its production location, as it was originally set to be shot in Japan, which is still recovering from its catastrophic earthquake. “That’s in limbo as well,” Jackman said of shooting there. “Who knows what the situation is on the ground?”

“All we need to do is find a new director, but we won’t settle for anyone who isn’t as good as Darren (Aronofsky),”

That’s a big pool in my book (I’m not a huge Aronofsky fan, but I know many are) but I wonder if the director search might head off into that indie like territory (like the previous film’s Gavin Hood) or did Jackman mean an Oscar nominated director?

Going in, the director would have to contend with Fox (for better or worse) agree to a prequel/sequel (a hard sell for some if they were not part of previous pictures) and, by the way Jackman sounds, could be named by the end of April if not sooner. Also, new directors sometimes bring on new changes. Makes you wonder who’s being looked at. I want to think scribe Chris McQuarrie, but he’s only directed one film (Way Of The Gun) or Bryan Singer – but he’s loaded with other projects. No new short list- but if Jackman isn’t just being an optimist– someone’s in talks as I write this. Stay tuned.
