Hasbro Reveals Test Footage for Transformers Prime

Transformers is returning to TV once again. At ComicCon 2010 this clip was revealed showing some unfinished footage of the new series that appears to be an extension of the Feature Film version of Transformers that will be part of a new Network called The Hub that will launch later this year.

“Transformers Prime” marks the franchise’s return to TV in cutting edge computer-generated animation after the last two wildly successful films. Reuniting Peter Cullen and Frank Welker as the original voices behind OPTIMUS PRIME and MEGATRON, the series both deepens the epic mythology of AUTOBOTS and DECEPTICONS, while starting fresh for a new generation of viewers and future transformers fans. With a bold and modern new look, OPTIMUS PRIME, BUMBLEBEE and others are back to roll out against MEGATRON’S latest plots to conquer Earth. The AUTOBOTS may be few against the DECEPTICONS menace, but they find increased strength here on their home away from home via bonds they’ve forged with three human teenagers. The TRANSFORMERS series will deliver heavy metal action and nail-biting suspense — but also promises to take human drama to levels as of yet unseen in the franchise.

“Transformers Prime” will debut on The Hub later this fall. The Hub is a cable and satellite television network and multiplatform joint venture between Discovery Communications and Hasbro, Inc that will be launching on 10.10.10.

The footage is VERY rough, but gives us an idea of what we might see in yet another incarnation of the Transformers in animated form. And it will be cool to hear Franke Welker and Peter Cullen doing Megatron and Prime again. Cullen did the movie Prime’s voice, but Frank Welker was not Megatron.

Transformers has seen quite a few takes in recent years all with a little different style and flavour. None of them really seem to last very long. Transformers Animated was my favourite out of the bunch even if it was a little juvenile. I really liked the style of the characters.

This looks like its going to be more in the vein of the movies, and I am not 100% excited about it, but I am hopeful. It looks good, but a few things are itching me.

I am looking forward to giving it a try.

  1. I actually, for the most part, enjoyed how they looked in the movies. I thought that they went a bit WAY overboard with all the moving parts and how the robots didn’t look ANYTHING like the vehicles, but nonetheless, it was nice to see a fresh take on it. This looks a lot better than some of the other cartoon garbage that’s been put out … I mean, seriously, Optimus Primal the ape?!?

  2. Test footage looks promising. Hope it’ll be as good as the G1 series did in the past. The novel thing about this is that it uses 3D rendering for the show. They’re probably using Maya or 3D Studio Max for the characters.
