Banks To Star In Live-Action Tinkerbell Movie

Following the success of their live-action film, Enchanted, Disney has decided to move forward and make another movie along the same lines. Apparently, they will tackle the character of Tinkerbell. So who would play her? Today, we get news of this…

Collider reports:

Following the success of their last live-action princess movie, Enchanted, Disney has begun work on Tink, a non-animated film based around Peter Pan’s tiny sidekick. Elizabeth Banks is attached to play the pixie. Banks also helped to develop the movie along with Max Handelman who helps run the actress’s production company. The project has followed development exec. Matt Smith from Wonderland Productions to its current home at Offspring.

The script is being co-written by Elizabeth Wright Shapiro and the mono-named McG.

According to Variety, the concept for the film is too “play with the mischievous nature of the Tinkerbell character,” which sounds to me like there will be a fair amount of self-parody, much like Enchanted.

I really enjoyed Enchanted when it came out. I remember going in with my wife, not knowing what to expect, and coming out pretty satisfied. It was a clever little film. Really funny; making fun of their own classic movies was an awesome move. Now, doing the Tinkerbell movie may be a little tougher because we are talking about Peter Pan’s sidekick. And yeah, remember, she’s also tiny. But I can see Banks doing a great job on this role. She’s got the looks and talent to deliver this. Another little element that makes me a little uncomfortable is that McG is directing. I’m not a fan of his, so we’ll see…

What do you guys think?

  1. There was a direct to DVD film on Tinkerbell released only a couple years ago and then a sequal to that (Tinkerbell and the Lost Treasure) last year.

They were both actually pretty good (better than some films that get wide released) — my husband and I actually both quote lines from the first film because they were so memorable.

I just hope the new film respects some of the ‘lore’ that has been build up among fans of the animated films. Especially since 2 more animated films are rumored to be in production.

    1. Given that this will be a live action adaptation of the film, I doubt we are going to see any lore shared from the animated dtv’s or Peter Pan himself.

This will be its own stand alone film.

And they couldn’t have picked a more attractive actress to play Tink!

      1. True, true… Elizabeth Banks not only looks the part but I think she’ll be able to capture Tink’s moods well based on what I’ve seen her do in some of her other films.

  2. I was a huge fan of the Enchanted movie… but not so much of Tinkerbell or the Peter Pan universe for that matter.

Regardless, I’ll probably see it anyways.

    As for McG… I don’t really care.
