Sheen Returning For A New Major League Movie?

“JUST a bit outside”. Remember those really funny Major League films? Not the third one (that one doesn’t exist to me). I’m talking about the first two ones; Major League (1989) and Major League II (1994). The gods appear to have smiled upon the baseball field. Apparently, there’s news of a new Major League movie in the works; one that includes Charlie Sheen coming back as “Wild Thing”.

MovieHole reports:

Bob Uecker let the cat out of the bag last year, announcing at a sports game (well, of course!) that a new “Major League” movie was in the works.

“We’re actually talking about doing one right now. I’ve written, what I see, as Major League 3. We’re putting that together as we speak – in fact, next week I’m off to talk to James Robinson at Morgan Creek about it.

“It’s 20 years later, and Wild Thing comes out of retirement to work with this 19-year-old player”, Ward says of the storyline. “We’ve actually got three new characters in the new film. And if the new film is popular, they could carry the franchise on”.

Though Ward, whose other credits include the Oscar Winner “The Sting” and “Sleepless in Seattle”, hopes to get Tom Berenger, Corbin Bernsen and even, Wesley Snipes* back for “Major League 3”, he’s so far only spoken to Charlie Sheen about it.

“He’s excited to do it if and when it happens”, says Ward. “But he can’t shoot it this year, because he’s back doing Two-and-a-Half Men, but we could potentially shoot it next year – in his hiatus from the show”.

This is awesome news! I’m really excited about this one being done. If the cast comes back again in someway, this would be even better. To this day, those movies are just too funny and entertaining. I love them. I also like Ward’s attitude towards the third one that exists; he goes on to call his proposed sequel as the real #3. I love that. I’m really pumped up for this one; let’s hope the cast come back…

What do you guys think?

  1. I’ll see it no matter how bad I suspect it will be.

MJ1 is one of my top ten most quotable films of all time. Just off the top of my head:

    “Juuuust a bit outside!”
“Name one? Yellowstone!” (trailer only I think)
    “California Penal League”
    “What’s this OLE’ Bullshit?”
“You trying to say Jesus Christ can’t hit a curve ball?”
“Who gives a shit? It’s gone!”
    “Si, Si, Pedro!”
    “STRIKE THIS MOTHERFUCKER, OUT!”
“You may run like Mays, but you hit like shit!”
    “Is very bad….is VERY bad!”
    “One or two POTENTIAL ALL-STARS!”

    and the best

    “Well, cross him off then!”

  2. Wild Thing!

He could basically do the Berringer role like in #1 just with his character….y’know.

    is Mr. Baseball still around?

    I’ll go see it

  3. Not that excited, but hopefully it will be better than the massive wave of humorless spoof movies thrown at us in the past several years.

  4. I love the Major League movies. The Back to the Minors was alright but the first 2 were funny as hell. If the original characters comes back for a 3rd movie it will be even better. I hope they get that rich bitch owner to come back. I just loved her in that roll as the owner.
