Guillermo Del Toro Talks What’s Next

After Guillermo Del Toro called it quits on the trouble laden Hobbit films, many other projects he had on hold were suddenly being considered again.

Collider had an interview with the much sought after director, and he talks mostly about what’s next for him.

-Wants to be shooting something in May of next year
-At the Mountains of Madness is probably not going to happen due to many reasons (he explains in interview)
-Hellboy 3 would only happen after his next project. It’s definitely not his next film
Frankenstein – he is presenting the storyline to Universal and Doug Jones will play Frankenstein
-Frankenstein screenplay is not done yet
-At Comic-Con GDT will be promoting Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark. They are definitely announcing a project at Comic-Con that he will be writing, producing and maybe directing. Says he is at Comic-Con for 3 days to do some shopping
-His Man Cave is getting an addition. He explains.
-Says the 3 projects he is thinking about have scripts that are much further along. Says the script he really wants to do he started 15 years ago!
-Says his brother is making for him the car from the movie The Car starring James Brolin! He’ll be driving around Los Angeles in 3 months in it

I like the idea that Guillermo will be “shopping” at Comic-Con. I wonder if he will be paying close attention to those independent presses that will be there, and scouting out his next feature from some obscure up and comer? Wouldn’t that be a dream come true for some aspiring comic writer to have his project hand picked from Guillermo?

And I imagined that Guillermo would suddenly have a heaping pile of stuff on his plate the second he freed up his schedule.

And now other stuff he put aside in order to do the Hobbit is now coming up to the surface for some air!

I really look forward to Hellboy 3 and Frankentstein.

  1. Well, you pretty much said it, Rodney. Can’t wait for Hellboy 3 or Frankenstein.
And I just want to tell you, from one hard-working guy to another, you’re doing a wonderful job here, man.
