WB Revisits Looney Toons Theatrical Shorts

While everyone else is complaining that remakes and reboots are the trash can of Hollywood, this is one idea I am excited to hear they are revisiting.

Looney Toons is ressurecting their timeless animated shorts with an updated style. And they plan to start delivering these new and improved adventures of Coyote and Roadrunner will be presented as 3d shorts ahead of WB’s Cat’s and Dogs sequel “The Revenge of Kitty Galore” this July.

After plugging that, they will have an ongoing TV Series in the fall.

Take a look at the new updated Bugs and Daffy:

/Film has the plot:

Then the new The Looney Tunes Show, a 26-episode half-hour series, will appear on Cartoon Network this fall. There Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck will be “odd-couple roommates in a contemporary cul-de-sac” with neighbors Yosemite Sam, Tweety Bird, Sylvester, Marvin the Martian and Porky Pig.

Ok, less interested in putting them in a setting like this. One of the great things about the original toons was that there was no canon. There were classic relationships, but no static set to revolve the shows around.

They state that “Looney Toons Unleashed” is their road map of what not to do, but I think they are still taking a wrong turn at Albuqurque.

Still I look forward to seeing what they do with it and if they can recapture the original charm of the shorts that still hold up today.

  1. It is really hard for me to accept the new “upgraded” drawings of my ol’ favorite cartoon characters. The drawing technique is one thing, but my biggest concern is can they bring back the humor that the classic Loony Toon shows are known for? If they can, great! The Loony Tunes are back! But if not, I don’t know if it will catch on to the newer generation.

  2. The CGI Road Runner- Wile E Coyote deserves a better fate than Cats & Dogs 2, but I think it’s a great idea. And all new chase at that.

The “updated” Bugs and Daffy? The concept of the “next door neighbors”?
Not as bad as when WB babied the characters up many moons ago. My childhood memories of Saturday Morning blocks of The Bugs Bunny Roadrunner hour were already tainted long before now. (It was slightly revived with ‘Space Jam’ from the 90’s)

I wonder how Marvin will look though in the new show; isn’t that character getting a 3-D movie of his own?

  3. Looney Tunes is all that, Karma, but let’s not pretend the WB isn’t capable of putting on new, great spins. A lot of people from my generation would say that Animaniacs would give the original Looney Tunes a real run for its money. Pinky and the Brain FTW.

  4. this is not going to be like the old good episodes that we all have enjoyed, because back in the days the good old Looney Toons were so racist (which made them awesome), but in days people are going to complain if they are the same… haha remember when Donald Duck called Daffy Duck a “N****r” in the Who Frame Roger Rabbit movie? hahah that was AWESOME!!

    1. The Daffy-Donald exchange is an “urban legend”. It is reportedly all bogus. Watch some of the old Donald Duck cartoons. Daffy says his catchphrase; Donald retorts with his.

  5. you want classic looney tunes back? (best cartoon series ever, imo) then you need to bring back to life tex avery, chuck jones, mel blanc. Looney Tunes are incomparable and irreplaceable
