Planet Hulk DVD Movie Releases Feb

Hulk was always just on my radar but never on my reading list. I still know enough about the character to pay attention to what is going on with him.

So when the Planet Hulk event happened in Marvel in 2006 I took notice. Hot damn that was some of the best storytelling in all of comics. Now Marvel Animation is releasing the Planet Hulk story in a direct to DVD movie event release.

In a nutshell, a group of superpowered leaders like Doctor Strange, Professor Xavier and Iron Man (among others) who form “The Illuminati” sit down to decide what they are going to do about their friend Bruce Banner and his monster within The Hulk. They realize his only wish is to be left alone, so they lure him into a spacecraft and banish him to a distant planet without sentient life so he can be alone. But when Hulk realizes what’s going on he looses his kittens and tears apart the ship causing him to land on a different planet.

On this planet he is forced into a gladitorial ring, and eventually becomes the saviour of the slave population on this planet.

  1. Never ceases to amaze me how a good story in the comics medium surpases some scripts that are in Hollywood today.. How come they dont use these guy’s more often to helm a comic movie?

    Planet Hulk was entertaining.

some of these animated Marvel stuff are top notch. I personally like the traditional artistry over some of the Japanese influenced art we see in some of these.. Like Invincible IronMan..

  2. The Planet Hulk comic was good, not as great as people were claiming it was though. The pacing was attrocious and it was quite underwhelming. It was more or less an average story padded to 13+ issues.

The movie looks like a pretty good adaption though.

    1. I thought Planet Hulk was very good myself, I did find WW-Hulk to be complete trash though.

Just think of all the renewed interest that Planet Hulk generated for the character, I would say that it was a little better than good don’t you think?
