Malkovich Replaces Reilly in Red

In a strange day of role replacements, we get yet another story about an actor leaving a movie and being replaced by someone else.

John C Reilly is leaving his role in the comic book adaptation of Red, and in his placement will be John Malkovich.

Movie Web says:

John Malkovich has is taking over for John C. Reilly in Summit Entertainment’s Red.

Malkovich joins Helen Mirren, Morgan Freeman and Bruce Willis on this project that is being produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian.

Red is a pretty harsh comic that follows a former black-ops agent being hunted by a high tech assassin.

I like having a more mature actor in the role of an Ex Black-Ops agent. Gives more credibility to the Ex part. And I don’t often equate John C Reilly with serious roles and Malkovich has that presence that makes you really think he might have killed someone in the past. Or not. You just don’t know.

Why Reilly is leaving is uncertain, but maybe they just thought that Malkovich would be a better fit.

  1. Malcovich seems to be drawn to these types of roles lately. First hearing about Spiderman 4 and now this? Not to mention he’s also in jonah Hex, isn’t he? We didn’t see him so busy and after Burn After Reading, it seems like everyone was reminded of how great he truly is. I’m glad to see him active in different roles that are out of his element.
