Liam Neeson As Hannibal And Bradley Cooper As Face In A-Team Movie

Remember back when it was announced that there was going to be an A-Team movie? Yeah, there was great joy amongst all the people… and then there was word that Ice Cube was going to be cast as B.A. Baracus and we all screamed out a collective WTF!?!?!?! Yes, at that moment we all gave up on any hope that an A-Team movie would be any good.

But then hope shinned over the mountains and washed us in it’s warm glow. They dumped the director and rumored attached cast and started essentially from scratch. Now leading the film is director Joe Carnahan (Smokin Aces) and our first solid casting news is here!

As rumored before, Bradley Cooper (The Hangover, Alias) is FACE!!!! Amazing casting! He’s absolutely perfect for the role and wil do Dirk Benedict proud!

And there’s more. Apparently they’re close to signing Liam Neeson as Hannibal Smith to lead the A-Team! How bad ass that?!?!?!

I should also mention that there are unsubstantiated rumors that Woody Harrelson is up to play Murdock… but I doubt that will happen.

So the big question left lingering is… WHO CAN POSSIBLY BE B.A.?!?!?! I’ve got a feeling no matter who they cast people won’t be happy. Can you picture anyone in that iconic role?

  1. Wow, I wasn’t expecting them to get such good actors for this, let alone Ridley Scott to produce. I grew up with the A-Team and still catch it now and then on basic cable. Can’t wait to see who fills the other character’s shoes.

This is just amazing. Can’t wait to see the trailers.

  2. Casting this movie is gonna be real hard but for me its sooo obvious who should be in the cast.

Ben Stiler – Howling Mad Murdoch
    Ryan Reynolds – Face
    Terry Crewes – BA
    Robert Downey Jr. – Hannibal

    1. Agreed. Neeson’s a great actor, but wrong wrong wrong for this role. The character needs some natural, good-old-boy bravado. Since Bruce Willis is out, wait ten years and cast George Clooney.

And I like Ving as BA. He has the likability you need while still letting you know he could cave your head in.

  3. Ya that’s good news man. Those guess will be great in those roles. But for BA, I think they will be forced to simply re-invent the character. There was alot of stuff with that character that are to closely associated with MR. T. Maybe Michael Clark Duncan would be good.

  4. Dwayne Johnson could do it, but I don’t want him to, nothing against the guy, I just would rather see someone else in the role.

I thought about Terry Crews as well, but is he too old for the role? I’m not sure at what age range they’re looking to cast.

Common was rumored to be on the list of those considered, but I read that like three or more weeks ago, so I don’t know if anything will come of that rumor.

I like the suggestions of Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje and Michael Clark Duncan both would do the role justice.

  5. Decent casting choices but I am stil interested in knowing about the Script. Obviously, the original A-Team were cast-offs and renegades from the Vietnam War. So what is the new A-Team? Is this going to be a period piece, or are they updating it to say reflect them as Desert Storm Renegades etc?

    1. Word! He was my absolute favorite character on Lost, I actually quit watching the show after he left. He would be a great BA, he is great in anything he does actually.

  6. They should see if they can get the rest of the surviving cast to cameo, as Mr. T, Dirk Benedict, and Dwight Schultz are still around.

However, like M@tt said, casting someone who would copy BA might not be a good think, like Kirk in Star Trek. However, having someone who can channel Schultz’s Murdock, like Karl Urban did with Bones in Star Trek, would be a good thing.

I could see The Rock as BA Baracus.

As for Murdock, maybe Damon Wayans, if he channeled more of his “In Living Color” persona for the crazy scenes. I would say Jim Carrey, but he is so hit and miss at times. It needs to be someone who can do crazy, but can also play it straight and serious when needed.

  7. For some reason, I have this feeling that it will be Samuel L Jackson. Or he could dip back into his Smoking Aces cast and pull out Common. Both could have their own take at B.A. (going back to what M@tt wrote) Honestly, I think it might be cool having a smooth talking B.A.

  8. Anything with the Rock in it is fine with me.

It’s suprising, around here and in real life with the people I speak to, nobody has a bad word to say about the Rock of the the films he’s been in, some including myself can even sit through Southland Tales a second/third time! lol!

I find it hard to understand why he isn’t one of the most marketable faces out there for action flicks and such or blockbuster movies.

I think he needs a new agent

  9. The Rock!! I never would have htought of that, it’s a stellar idea though. I didn’t want to see a Mr T impersonator anyways and Dwayne Johnson would kill at that roll with that cast. God please make that happen.

  10. The problem they have with casting B.A., is the same problem Star Trek had with casting Kirk. The person who plays B.A. will have to be their own B.A., or it will just be a Mr. T impersonation.

  11. The only person I see working as B.A. is Michael Clarke Duncan because mofo is effing huge or probably Dwayne Johnson. But other great choices would be (even if they’re not huge in size): Djimon Hounsou, Anthony Mackie or Idris Elba,

    1. I’d vote for Michael Clarke Duncan. When I was a kid MR. T was larger than anyone I’d ever seen. (we didn’t have cable) Duncan fills that role at least.

I had about as much aniticipation for this movie as GI Joe (not much), but with this new cast news, there is new hope!

    2. I could see Djimon Hounsou as a good choice, or maybe Ving Rhames.I really like michael clarke duncan but I just don’t see it. And does BA really have to be overly hugs? I mean MR T was sorta big but not michael clarke duncan huge. I’d say my choice of ving rahmesfits the body size as well as him being able to play a bad Mofo. on the other hand Dijmon would be a smaller body build but still as bad ass. I think if they go more with the bad assness of BA rather than just casting Huge black guy into the character then they are looking at the character and not just a stereotype.

    3. Ving would be my pick because he is intimidating. I love MCD, but he is a teddy bear. If he pulls off a convincing badass role.

The issue is getting a convincing BA to live up to our imagination of the guy. Everyone thinks BA was 7 feet tall and 400lbs. But he really wasn’t that big. Don’t get me wrong, at 6’1 and 250 lbs, Mr. T can beat me up (But I treat my momma right so I am not scared) but he isn’t “massive”

  12. This is good news , i would see Neeson as Hannibal. But other news is also –

Bruce Willis is in The Expendables, and not for a cameo but for a real part. Good preview isnt it, dotn believe check it out.

    1. It’s an 80s TV show. You might be too young.

Check out this link for the theme and after it for the dialogue from the credits.

In 1972, a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn’t commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground.

Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune.

If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire… The A-Team.

    2. That is the only thing I do not like about this site, Many times answers are given to insignificant questions. Or replies are for defending ones article. I have posed this same question twice now and have never received a reply, I know in truth you may not know, but you are The Movie Blog” so I ask this again.

      1. Sometimes no answer IS the answer Anti-Septic.

The script isn’t written yet. No one can answer that. Your guess is as good as mine. My guess? They would update it to be Dessert Storm renegades.

        1. The Variety article makes it sound like the script is ready to roll:

Ridley Scott is producing with Jules Daly and series creator Stephen J. Cannell, with Tony Scott exec producing through Scott Free. Carnahan and Brian Bloom polished a script by Skip Woods, whose recent script credits include “G.I. Joe: The Rise of the Cobra” and “Wolverine.”

    3. @ methos, thanks for your kind reply. I kinda thought that may be the case but couldn’t find any info on it.

Thanks for takin the time and answering my question.
