Nightmare on Elm Street Reboot begins Filming Soon

News floating around today says that Platinum Dunes is eager to get started on the reboot of Nightmare on Elm Street. Apparently crew is being called to the set to begin principal photography late next month, aiming for a April 16th 2010 release.

/Film says:

Platinum Dunes is eyeing an April 27th, 2009 start for principal photography for their reboot of A Nightmare on Elm Street, and Warner Bros has set April 16th, 2010 for the film’s theatrical release

Nightmare on Elm St is one of those franchises that I don’t really mind them rebooting. And they are rumoured to have Watchmen’s Jackie Earl Haley as Freddy but other rumours say he was confirmed NOT in the role. With such a close starting date for principal photography I hope that they already have their cast.

I am not one of those purists who think that Freddy must be played by Englund, and considering Englund is in his 60s I just don’t see it happening anyways. Whoever they get will have to have the presence and mannerisms down and the mask will take care of the rest.

The house appears in so many movies, we know its still around. I hope that they use the same Elm St House for the reboot too.

So they are filming late next month, so who is Freddy?

  1. Hello all! This is one of my favorite movies! I live in Algonquin. Are they filming at the Barrington High School on Main St? I would love to see them film the movie.

Thank you… just wish it was not being remade!

    Later

  4. If anybody is looking at this i know that the movie is being filmed in chicago and pretty much will take place in Barrington, Illinois the whole time! im sooo excited cuz well thats where i live!!!

  5. nightmare on elm street, with so much potential to be an absolutley terrifying movie…i hope they see it this way. some of the older ones were good but some were just terrible. Hopefully funny freddy is gone for good and they can make this as nightmarish as it truly could be!
    Long Live Horror!

  6. Maybe 1/4 or 1/3 of the Nightmare on Elm Street movies were good and the rest were udder garbage looking back on them. This series deserves a reboot and it needs to be visceral and a hard R.

  7. I don’t really give a rat’s ass about slasher flicks, especially the most retarded slasher franchise of them all: A Nightmare on Elm Street.

  8. Screw Englund as Freddy, he better reprise for the new V series!!!

Anyway, isn’t there another movie recently announced to be shooting for an April 16, 2010 release? Could have sworn I just read that date for another movie. Was is the new Chris Nolan movie? Can’t remember.

  9. ONE big problem I have here is that everyone is getting hung up on who plays Freddy as Robert Englund played Freddy. While I *****don’t**** buy Rodney’s arguement of Englund being in his 60’s and thus, out of the running doesn’t really hold up that much- whoever plays the role has burn makeup on his face making age of the actor a moot point- hell, Billy Bob is in his 50’s, Jackie Haley is in late 40’s.

Now, that said…and the int’l friends and H’wood will despise me for saying this. You all have it wrong. Currently, Englund is 61. The first time he played Freddy was in 1984.
    That’s roughly 37 years young.

IF this reboot/remake is serious, the actor could be in his mid to late 30’s and get away with it. In addition, stick to form- when Englund was Freddy he was a nice guy alien on V. Hence, you need an actor who has played something totally opposite than Freddy. Maybe even someone who isn’t a name grabber.

But I don’t want the actor to channel Robert Englund.

  10. I hope they don’t mess this up like they did with the Texas Chainsaw massacre and Friday the 13th reboots. However, I have to stay positive. If they get Jackie Earl Haley or Billy Bob Thorton in the lead role I’ll see it.

  11. Now this I don’t mind happening, and for April 16th 2010, easily they can get the film finished under a year, so no problem, except for one…who will play Freddy?!

    1. To be fair, was Englund GOOD and brought us Freddy, or did we fall in love with the character of Freddy and reward Englund for it?

Englund himself is a decent actor, but Freddy is hardly a deep character. He will be an easy recast I think.

They just really need to do that soon.
