High School Musical 4 is on its Way

Now before you go and judge me, I have kids. This is why I know about this movie. But I am also a sucker for a catchy tune and I have to confess that I secretly like the High School Musical series of films. But all things do come to an end… unless you make $250m on the third movie (and also the first in theaters) so now we find out they are making a Highschool Musical 4 – just not in theaters.

Yahoo gives us the premise:

HSM4 will return to the cable channel where HSM and HSM2 kicked off the global phenomenon. The premise is described in a Disney statement as, “East meets West in a classic love triangle set against the crosstown school rivalry between the East High Wildcats and West High Knights.”

At the end of High School Musical 3, all the main cast members were moving on to different schools and an era was ending. So the all star cast that all got their start on High School Musical are also branching out into new gigs and will not be returning. The only logical member would be Ashley Tisdale’s character. At the end of HSM3 she announced she is studying theater at a local University and returning to be a Teachers Assistant to help run the drama department. No word on if she will be in this sequel.

So this will introduce a whole new generation of East High students will be meeting up with some new faces from the West High class and a new budding romance for teens to gush over between Twilight movies.

I think it is wise to return to the small screen for this chapter to see if the characters catch on as well as the first round did. I do also like that they are trying to mix up the storyline instead of just rehashing the same dynamic and same plot with a new cast hoping to duplicate the success of the first one.

  1. Actually I am a fan of HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL and I have the original copies of their DVD’s, and a collection of their books, posters and stickers.

    So I think…
It is better to show it in theaters.

    Oh I forgot.!
Who are the new cast of High School Musical????

    and…..
Who are the new cast of High School Musical?

  3. Wow!! Another one!! i wish the old cast would come back. A guy named Jason Abustan is supposedly playing the bad boy in High School Musical 4. He better do good because he has a huge franchise to live up to.

  4. but yea some people are over reacting.

if they create a new story line and
a new cast and bring it back down to
television it would be like a normal
    NEW disney original movie.

but you guys are taking this thing OVERR.

    &btw,rodney’s cool ;D

  5. hello what are they doing a new cast???? has that ever worked??? Dirty Dancing was one of the best movies ever made do you people no there was a Dirty Dancing 2 yer most people dont care cause the original cast wasnt in it. And the same can be said for so many movies. it just dosent work. i would have loved to see high school musical 4 college days sorta thing. with troy doing getting accepted into a musical and bringing the whole cast into it. anything would have been better than this idea.

    1. They are going with a new cast because all the major characters in this franchise have graduated highschool. “We Go to 5 Different Colleges Musical” doesn’t have the same ring to it.

They will likely tag on to some of the younger cast that were introduced in 3 and add a few more to that.

  6. interesting that there are so many attacks on these movies, which are targeted at the 5-12 crowd. for them, the movies are fulfilling the job of the musical–to be an artistic step between the pop culture play (shakespeare’s works were pop culture)and the opera. i would so love to know if the detractors are the same folk who guzzle table wine while telling me how cultured they are.
yes, i have seen all three movies with my daughter–clean and well-produced fun for the wee crowd.

  7. In my oppinion HSM4 is a great idea!!!!!
    They should make it ASAP!!!!!
I think it would be the best to see all of orginal cast and maybe some other Disney Stars (Michalka, Cyrus, Song). I know it is quite impossible but Miley had appeared in second part at the pool (don’t ya remember??). It could be similar to HSM2 (about vacations ofc). What do you think?

  8. Some musicals are really cool, like Sweeny Todd and Across the Universe. This is crap but nobody’s forcing you to watch it, close your eyes if a comercial of it on tv is passing. I could care less if they went up too HSM 50: THE RETIRED YEARS, Anyway, it’s for children, kids, little blokes…

    1. Agreed, you would have to be pretty ignorant to assume these movies are so shitty and you have no evidence to justify it.

You take your ignorance as a point of pride? Get help my friend.

    2. That’s the thing about the average Internet Movie Fan. Any movie that isn’t aimed directly at their demographic, is a ‘shitty movie’.

  9. I love it!
“This is going to be the final one for sure guys!”
“…well…now it made a shitload of cash so there’s no harm in another one”
I didn’t think the movies were terrible, but I think it’s definetely a smart move to go back to television.

  10. I’m overeacting about the destroying young minds thing. Musicals are not my favorites, but I still appreciate some like Grease, Hairspray, and Mamma Mia. HSM is good clean musical fun, but shouldn’t they musicals that adults can tolerate?

    1. They do. You’ve listed some, and others would be Phantom of the Opera and Repo. As you already pointed out, there are LOTS of musicals that adults can tolerate, so what’s wrong with making a few aimed at kids as well?

  11. HSM is like a really bad case of acne that won’t go away or a flesh eating disease that’s destroying the minds of the young. I hate High School Musical with a fiery passion, but I could watch Vanessa Hudgens all day. That girl is hot!

    1. Explain what is so “wrong” about High School Musical that it is “destroying the minds of the young”?

You may not appreciate musicals, but all in all these are pretty entertaining if you are into that sort of thing.

Not everyone’s cup of tea, but I don’t know how the positive message and catchy Disney saccharine tunes are destroying young minds.

    1. Zac Efron is the oldest I believe… and he is 22 this year.

This is still a very young cast. But after a great deal of success financially the stars are hoping to branch out into other things.

Efron is remaking Footloose right now. Hopefully he just dances and they don’t try to make it a musical.

    1. I agree with Rodney
i personally enjoy the movies, but honestly if u dont like them, thats ur opinion and everyone is allowed an opinion but dont judge something unless uve seen it. If u honestly dont like it, dont watch it…pretty simple

    1. You bought tickets to the movie?

Well someone did. The franchise is insanely popular, but it doesn’t pretend you have to like it.

It has fans… a lot of them. Might not be something you like, but you only “deserve” this if you are a fan. Otherwise you are going out of your way to upset yourself. I avoided these all until just 3 months ago.

  12. Ok… I’m a Disney nerd, and I can admit that the HSM movies were pretty decent despite the way they fit in so nicely amongst the Disney Channel’s mindless line-up of tween superstars that have a three or four year lifespan. But like I say… HSM isn’t that bad.

HOWEVER… isn’t this going a little too far? I mean, when a saga reaches its end, but the producers keep trying to bleed it dry, isn’t that when the fan boys and girls really end up dosowning the franchise? This is really whats wrong with the Disney family live action Department… they hardly care about making a quality product anymore that will last longer than their tween stars! Look at the stuff that was good quality that they’ve made in the past that lasts forever… Mary Poppins, Swiss Family Robinson, The Witch Mountains (which they have unfortunetely now made a new one that has little to do with the originals)… Common guys… Eisner isn’t there anymore. Follow Lasseter’s example and FIX it!

    1. Not always. If you can keep things fresh, and try to just branch out into new territory, a series of films can go on for some time. But the key words being “if you can keep things fresh.” I won’t judge until I see a trailer.

    2. I Do agree with Seth Rex Disney Could make good movies and when you find something that everybody loves you have to see if you cand continue the story some how if Disney think that this way is best then fine but if i was disney i would continue the lives of the much loved charicters like Troy, Gabriela, Sharpey, Ryan and even Chad and Taylor i personally would focus on the main cast that have in the time made HSM what it is and it is worthy to be squeased until every last bit is out of it mabay even change the Name to Great Musical 4 or Maybe thats just a little bit corny Mabe start with sharpey and then leave Troy and Gabriela to last and make that the last ever film instead of leaving us stuck in a confusing state their are fans bursting to know what happens to the original cast Stuff the new ones keep the original cast in

      (:D) (:D)

Just to tell you Disney has decided to cancel HSM title and make it Sharpey’s Fabulos Adventure set 3 years after East High Teachers Assistant.
