Transformers 2 Trailer In February

Transformers-2-trailer.jpgAs most of you know, the one film I anticipated more than any other in movie history (aside from The Phantom Menace) was Transformers. I grew up not just collecting these toys, but plastering their pictures all over my walls, watching the cartoons and playing with the toys. While the movie itself ended up having some major short comings, I still insanely enjoyed it.

Transformers 2 I have some apprehension on. From the news I’ve been reading it seems to me like the movie is building on the mistakes of the first film rather than the strengths of the first film. Seems like we’re getting more humans taking up screen time instead of more Autobot vs Decepticon action, Starscream micking with Megatron or just some more flat out city destruction. Sigh.

But still… it’s the Transformers so I’m still interested and will be there with bells on opening day as will a lot of other people. With that in mind, Transformers director Michael Bay has just announced that the first Transformers 2 trailer will be arriving in February in theaters or perhaps airing with the Superbowl (how sweet would that be. You know that if they buy Superbowl ad time they won’t just give us some flimsy little announcement trailer, but rather something with some meat to it).

I’m already humming the old cartoon theme music in my head.

  1. I’m disappointed that there won’t be a trailer release until February. I’d really like to see some kind of preview sooner than that. Like New Years or something. I found ET! and Extra have atleast been getting sneak peaks, the videos and more Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen I found at http://www.squidoo.com/transformers2. Can’t wait until this movie is out. Hope that there is way more robot action than the first.

  2. The Transformers movie sucked. They should have called it the 2 hour comedy special starring Shia Lebouf with some Transformers thrown in. I grew up in the 80’s and loved the toys and cartoon as much as the next kid but I wanted to see a movie with Transformers without having a “real” human cast.

  3. No matter what people’s opinions of TF the movie are, they all agree that the special effects are what made that movie interesting. In my opinion, everything else about the movie sucks. For the exception of josh duhamal, the acting was horrible, shia plays the same fucking characther in every movie. I think jokes about masterbation and transformers don’t belong in the same movie and that’s where I leave the room.

    Cheers

  4. I loved Transformers a lot. And the shortcomings that John mentioned I actually thought were strengths. I thought the human characters were more interesting than the Autobots or Decepticons. However, yes, I would love to see more robot action. But really, the way I see it, the human parts were a godsend, because it was like taking a breather between each action scene. Think of Transformers like Jaws, both movies basically follow the same pattern.

(Warning: Spoilers of both Jaws and Transformers follow below.)

Jaws opening: The shark eats the skinny dipper.
Transformers opening: Blackout attacks the US Air Force base.

Jaws: Chief Brody and the Amity Police force try to find out about the shark, and the human characters are introduced.
Transformers: The human characters are introduced, while the Pentagon tries to find more information about the attack at the base.

Jaws: The shark kills the little boy.
Transformers: Frenzy hacks Air Force One and downloads information about Sector Seven and the All-Spark.

Jaws: Quint is introduced, a bounty is placed on the shark.
Transformers: Sam is arrested, while the Pentagon tries to asess what happened.

Jaws: The shark kills the boat instructor.
Transformers: Scorpinock attacks Captain Lennox and his team the desert.

Jaws: Chief Brody prepares to go with Quint and Hooper to hunt down the shark.
Transformers: The Autobots are introduced, along with Sector Seven.

Jaws: The shark attacks the Orca.
Transformers: The Decepticons attack Hoover Dam, Megatron is awakened.

Jaws: The shark attacks the Orca again, kills Quint, Hooper goes missing.
Transformers: The Decepticons fight the Autobots in the city, Megatron kills Jazz.

Jaws: Chief Brody kills the shark, reunites with Hooper, and all is well.
Transformers: Sam kills Megatron, the Autobots reunite, all the humans go home, all is well. (Well, until the sequel, that is.)

What I’m trying to get at here is this: In my opinion, the mistakes that John mentioned were actually good things in the movie. Had those things not been in there, Transformers would just be a big, crappy CGI-raped movie, with the robots getting dull after the first three minutes. The human interaction was added in so that the novelty of the robots would not wear off as easily. Plus, Megan Fox is hot as hell!

Regarding the trailer, my best guess is that it will be shown in front of the Friday the 13th remake trailer. Why? Because Paramount owns the rights to both the live action Transformers movie, and the Friday the 13th franchise, and Michael Bay directs the second Transformers movie, while he’s producing the Friday the 13th remake.

  5. …i dont get what was NOT to like in transformers….
i mean the 1 single line between megatron and starscream was noticed only after the 3rd time i watched it and i didnt mind the humans because it was a movie that lasted a long time and had plenty of action. i think they handled it perfectly. sure NO humans would have been better but they handled it well
i liked absolutely everything about transformers. i thought magatron should have been a lighter shade of grey (closer to white but not really) and his face should have been A LITTLE different…same with starscreams face. he had fangs that made him look like a mosquito. but appart from that (and brawls name)…i have no problem with the movie

  6. Yep I feel the same say, seems like its gonna be a bigger and more compelling story than the first film..well the human story anyway. Im 85% positive that all will see is a TEASER trailer rather than a trailer that shows something to get us excited. If in fact the movie comes out this year than that only means that what went on in filming and production is most of the film. That would (in my opinion) make it the most disappointing sequel.
