Mickey Rourke Not Interested In Sin City 2

Marv-Sin-City.jpgI really enjoyed the first Sin City movie for several reasons… and one of the big ones was the incredible performance of Mickey Rourke who sort of reintroduced himself to movie fans in the role of Marv. A hard nosed bad ass who shows his soft side when faced with the affection of a prostitute. Oh… and then kicks lots of ass.

But Sin City 2 has been mired in a lot of confusion. One person says it’s happening, another says it isn’t. Suddenly Frank Miller thinks he’s a director and tells everyone it’s moving forward while others don’t sound so sure. Now Mickey Rourke has added to the doubt surrounding the movie by basically saying he’s not all that interested in doing the film. The good folks over at ComingSoon give us this:

“No, I’m not interested in that right now. That’s not a reality right now. It’s pissing in the wind,” Rourke admitted. “There’s different factions going different directions there. I don’t know. That’s three hours of make up and I’m claustrophobic, so I’m going to have to work something out.”

It’s not like Rourke is hurting for work either. He’s getting lots of Oscar buzz for his role in the upcoming film “The Wrestler” which everyone is saying just rules (I’m watching it tomorrow), so I highly doubt this is just him playing the game trying to get a bigger pay cheque. Rourke always struck me as the kind of guy who just says what he wants.

Personally… I’m getting less and less interested in a Sin City 2. I’m going to totally lose interest if Marv isn’t in there… and I’ll totally avoid it if Frank Miller directs it alone.

What about you. How is your interest level for Sin City 2 movie holding up?

  1. I would still see Sin City 2 for the NEW characters. I know that’s a dirty word these days,,,

Rourke was the best part of Sin City but if he can’t do it fine, let’s introduce another great performance.

  2. I think the lure of another Sin City has basically disappeared because, one they took too long to make the sequel and two, the look, which played a large part in the popularity of the film has lost its luster. And Miller will completely kill it with The Spirit, which will bomb, badly.
I’m betting they are watching how The Spirit will do until they green light the sequel to Sin City.
So really, I don’t think we’ll get a sequel, unless Miller is not involved.

  3. you took the words right out of my mouth j bryant.

No one has seen the spirit yet are writing off the guys entire directing career. Pathetic.

I know we all want to write people off as quick as possible but lets at least wait until their film is released before doing so huh.

is that too much to ask.

sure the spirit might suck. probably will the trailer is terrible but lets see it first.

  4. I wasn’t much of a ‘Sin City’ fan, but I did like some of the actors’ performances, specifically Rourke’s, Powers Boothe, Rosiario Dawson and Clive Owen. As for Rourke- whose Marv had a passing resemblance (for me anyway) to his role in 1989’s Johnny Handsome) ever since Sin City 2 was announced, his name didn’t come up all that much. I usaully heard Dawsons’s or Owen’s as far as returnees go, and maybe Boothe’s. “Sin City 2” was supposedly delayed due to Miller wanting one actress in the new film, which of course, is Angelina Joile.

I suppose there may have been a small role for Rourke as Marv (in a “new” flashback) ….unless there’s a ‘Harv’- Marv’s ‘twin brother’ made up for the film–and is mistaken for Marv. But that’s as far as I’d go.

By the way, since we are on the subject of Mickey Rourke… Wienstiens! Release ‘Killshot’ with Rourke, Tom Jane and Diane Lane already! If the film, based off Elmore Leonard’s novel is garbage or you don’t give two hoots about it, put it to video already. Get it off your shelf. Give it to another distrubutor who gives a rip. If Rourke gets a nomination for Wrestler, you got to answer for Killshot‘s delay sometime.

    Don’t think Killshot is relevant?

Who wants to make Sin City 2? Wouldn’t it be distributed under your banner?

  5. I could’ve swore that THE SPIRIT doesn’t come out till Christmas. You’d think with all the “Frank Miller was never a good director” comments, that the movie had already came out, was seen, reviewed, and processed. Considering SIN CITY is a fairly well-liked movie, and that Robert Rodriguez co-directed it, I think passing judgement on Miller’s solo directing skills without having seen his only solo directing credit is ignorant.

Don’t judge a flick solely on it’s trailer. I’ve seen dozens of trailers for movies that looked like crap that turned out to be really good. Now, if the movie is released and is crap, I could see making a judgement call on Miller’s solo directing skills. Otherwise, give the man a chance.

It’s funny to see all the fanboys who used to worship the guy turn on him when he decides to tackle a property that doesn’t feature SIN CITY or BATMAN.

  6. frank miller’s past his prime as a comics writer. he was never a good director. his comic book movies seem more campy than gritty or hardcore. his work is best adapted by heavyweights like chris nolan.

to imagine a batman begins (which was heavily miller-influenced) as a sin-city-esque romp would ruin the entire movie for me.

seriously, though, all of these problems could be solved if frank miller went cg…….think about it……cg films for adults…..not just kids…..might be fun….?

  7. Micky was supposed to be in Sin City 2 as some (all?) of the stories take place before Sin City. I kinda wish Frank Miller would go away and Robert Rodriguez would hurry up and shoot Sin City 2, but it’s not going to happen.

  8. Ok, I’m confused. Isn’t there a SIN CITY 2 already? All shot, edited and just about to be released? As far as I know Micky Rourke aint there because he like DIED in the end of Sin City, didn’t he? So what’s he yapping about?

SIN CITY 2… I don’t know WHO they got as lead actor. Complete unknown as far as I’m concerned. Really bad ass bad guys though. There’s Samuel Jackson playing…. what was that? The Octopus? Awesome name for a bad guy! Me, I can’t wait!

  9. I’m not as hyped up for it as I would have been a while back, but that’s largely because the buzz has died down a bit for me now. I’m sure if they got started, and we started to see some previews and photos, I’d get pretty excited about it.

A sequel would be good, but couldn’t hope to be as good as the first. Part of what made it so good, was that it was very innovative and different. But it’s been done, so you can’t recapture that magic again. I guess it’s similar to the news article above about Jurassic Park. No matter how good any JP sequel could hope to be, you would never recapture the magic of seeing the dinosaurs for the first time in the original.

But Sin City has a lot of potential for some more interesting stories, and a fun movie or 2 as sequels. Hey, why not?

  10. MM, Second part of Sin City? O-o

Visually. . . Joking banter, sinful doubles-entendres, and activist one-liners should’ve challenged the watcher to cool straight up let alone match the words and the gritty denouement of the visuals. **** ½ – visuals * – prevarication. Well. The cinematography was fabulous. Given the unfallaciousness that this movie was based under way poles apart ideographic novels written in line with Frank miller, one referring to the remarkably respected secondary plot tellers in the industry and taken without exhaustive of his most popular set re novellas. All in all that i got to see i in preference to free, I fictionalize that i got what i hired for. Macrocosm this garbled work considering 3 ½ stories that barely intertwine, where the violence and hydrogeology find a a cut above ground than the dialogue, where bullets and guns control a higher purpose unless the actors, and where the ‘look’ is more considerable than the story. . The hard-cut edges to shadows, the overpainted details, the way the burning glass followed and preceded the actors and the action en bloc screamed ‘comic book’! the libretto was sudden change seeing as how well, slipping in effect unnoticed strip off in the prefer that ourselves pleased the self headed for ardor the tension. . . . I categorically true shame. I can’t crack.
