BSG Prequel Caprica Gets Greenlight

Its no secret that we are big Battlestar Galactica fans here. The series had its good and bad, but I have taken in the whole thing with great appreciation for what SciFi on Television can really be about. Just a shame that there are such gaps between seasons. So will this article bring a glimmer of hope and wonderment towards the up coming half season that will conclude the journey?

Nope. This is all about what happened before Battlestar Galactica. Back home on Caprica. The rumoured prequel story has an official Green Light from SciFi Network.

Comingsoon Reports:

“Caprica” will star Eric Stoltz, Esai Morales, Paula Malcomson and Polly Walker, and will be set 50 years prior to “Galactica’s” seminal attack on human civilization by those dreaded ‘droids the Cylons. The series will focus on the Earthlike planet of Caprica as two rival families deal with, among other topical issues, the broader implications of their society’s emerging artificial intelligence technology sector.

I am not sure how they will handle a BSG story without Cylons. Oh sure they have their “emerging artificial intelligence technology” thing, but they already made sentient robots who at that point in their history already grew beyond manufactured bots and got tired of being the slaves and long since buggered off. We saw what they were up to in secret and the Capricans didn’t know about it til it was too late.

The skin jobs infiltrated their society to co-ordinate the attack that killed billions, but they could never reveal that in Caprica. Maybe anyone who does figure out something is different about a specific person ends up dead or something. However if they did have say a hot blonde seductress manipulating her way into the family, I wouldn’t mind seeing Tricia Helfer slinking her way on screen some more.

  1. Hey I know this is off topic but I was wondering if you
knew of any widgets I could add to my blog that automatically tweet my newest twitter updates.
I’ve been looking for a plug-in like this for quite some time and was hoping
maybe you would have some experience with something like this.
Please let me know if you run into anything. I
truly enjoy reading your blog and I look forward to your new updates.

  2. If anything Terminator is a lot like BSG.

Battlestar Galactica (the original series) came out long before the Terminator movie, so its not like Terminator has the rights to “robots wipe out humans” kind of thing.

And Caprica sounds to be leaning more towards the political intrigue and social than the action that spices up BSG. Both dramas, but different.

  3. They drop Atlantis, but give us this! At least it’s Sci Fi, instead of Wrestling or cheap reality shows, but, hmmm where’s the drama? “I wonder if they’ll do it? How WOULD that turn out for them?”

I don’t like the Adama family being so important either. Adama has talked tons about his father… you’d think it’d have come up if granddad invented the things. Sh!t, if Humans are wiped out by Frankenstein’s monster, and Gene Wilder is the captain of the last boat of survivors. He’ll be screaming that he’s Fronk-en-steen for all of 2 minutes until he’s ripped apart by a mob of people.

Wait, read the wiki about the show, sorry, they’re just married to the family that invents Cylons, but they’re going straight to skinjobs over some dead daughter…

I want ONE thing from Galactica’s ending… the whole SERIES would be PERFECT, if the last scene is Adama making an origami unicorn.

  4. Sounds hokey. I suppose there is a possibility of an old Cylon being reactivated (Lucifer!) and going rampage for an episode, but unless they find some part of the planet that is infested with Ovions, what is the point to this series anyway?
