Master Smith Guillermo Del Toro has begun to pen The Hobbit adaptation! We get wind of this news from our friends at the movieweb:
The process of creating the “Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring” prequel has gotten under way. A scooper wrote in to TheOneRing.net with word that the Guillermo del Toro has begun writing the script for The Hobbit. Here’s what the scooper had to say:
“Ive just got home from an early screening of “Hellboy II: The Golden Army” hosted by PopcornTaxi at the Greater Union Cinema in Sydney, where Guillermo did a telephone Q & A from Berlin after the film…The last question though related to The Hobbit – and Guillermo said that although there was nothing to add at the moment – he can say that scripting has started – and he described the process as something ‘beautiful.'”
The wheels of glory have begun to turn! I, like many of you am very excited to see this project and to hear that the process has started does me good. This is a time of celebration and merry making. I plan on sleeping more so the film will speed towards my wet, supple eye balls.
I didn’t read The Hobbit as a book. This is because the book didn’t work very well.
awesome, i can’t wait to see the trailers, or read about the latest news.
Yesss!!! Finally. Good to hear…
Considering all the news stories on this movie, I thought they were already filming. They better get their butts in gear.
Del Toro is co-writing the script with Jackson and Walsh, as revealed in an online chat with Del Toro awhile ago.
@Hdpunk
The second one has nothing to do with the Hobbit. It is just based off of ideas that Tolkien had.
Yes! Del Toro’s got this one sold. I’m expecting it to be like Pan’s Labyrinth meets Tolkien.
Jon H – This happened in Australia. The film isn’t out there yet or has just come out this week or something.
Isn’t this report old, as it mentions an early screening of Hellboy 2?
so are they splitting the hobbit in to two movies or is the second hobbit movie not based on the books?
I was really hoping that he wasn’t writing it. Hellboy had a terrible plot and the dialogue was even worse. I thought Peter Jackson would write it at least, he knows the book and the way around Tolkien’s work, whereas Guillermo Del Toro is overrated in both the directing and writing department.
Woot! Great to hear!
