Ok, there is a lot of speculation going on over the Character of Destro in the upcoming GI Joe movie. My biggest problem was the mask, but I am holding my breath. Having Christopher Eccleston playing the part official debunked the David Murray story, but now it looks like they were both right!
Hisstank.com has some news from a source at the European Cinema Expo that reads,
“It would seem that David Murray the original actor picked to play James McCullen AKA Destro is still indeed set to play Destro in the G.I. Joe Movie “Rise Of Cobra”.
David Murray will play James McCullen The 1st (The Original Arms Dealer)! He will play a huge part in the telling of the Destro Clan back story and how the “Family” came to don the Menacing Mask.”
So its going to be a family affair! Much speculation over the lack of a mask on early images of Destro were underplayed in hopes that we will see some sort of origin story on the mask and how it all came about.
I haven’t had too much of an issue with the other character images from the GIJoe movie, though some purists are getting their Sgt Slaughter Underoos in a bind over the White Ninja chic Stormshadow (but I do agree they should keep his mask on) But when I saw Destro without the chrome dome, I cussed. Loudly.
Well we can all relax now. and David Murray can have his job back as Destro… the first.
im gonna have to agree with sampson….from all the production pics and promotion stuff, this movie will more than likely be ass….it would be a dream come true for me to have a good gi joe movie….but if transformers is the best hollywood can do, i have little hope for this…..damn you hollywood
That crossover is much better than that so called Avengers/Transformers crossover.
And if they ever do a movie like that I hope it will be based on the DW version set in an Alternate reality where Cobra is sort of Nazi Germany.
Maybe they should go for the GI Joe Vs Transformers comics storyline.
Its one of the 4 times Bumblebee gets blown up in the comics!
I hope it is good, I have been reading all the G.I. Joe Comics — a monumental task– to prepare. This movie could still go both ways. The original Marvel run are some of the best comics written outside of “superhero” stories– IMO– and there are plenty of plots and sub plots to keep a great franchise going if they don’t botch this first flick.
I think the updates on some of the coustumes suck and these kinds of movies don’t have a great track record but keeping my fingers crossed. Oh and Randy Quaid’s involvment is just unsettling.

In the November 7th draft I read….. SPOILER ALERT…. the movie opens with one of Destro’s ancestors having been busted for double-dealing arms trading during the French revolution and forced to wear the silver mask as punishment by his French jailers for his betrayal. The mask makes a cameo appearance later on in the film, and then Destro (the Eccleston descendant) eventually dons something similar to it in the final shot (not final scene, final shot).
